journey into the abyss at O Tawa by Assiral & Mino ( Glowy howl stage)

Between the sacred old trees, deep in the forest of enlightment @Garbicz Festival 2024 we found a spot and created a pop up setting to play a liveset. Manifested by Beeldjutters. Made possible through Garbicz. From ambient soundscapes to synthesizer madness, radio tuning, downtempo, uptempo and Maarten’s wonderful handpan inside a magical world of Soul Safari moments. Trying to be the guide between the lights in the magical forest of Garbicz. Surrounded by big noisy stages from all sides and a broken midi controller we managed to make some kind of music. Enjoy!

“Procida Ritual Project is not the romantic and visionary idea of an island anchored to its roots, but a convinced path aimed at giving new life to the sounds of ritual celebrations of the Procidan community.”
Pier Paolo Polcari, composer, producer and co-founder of the iconic Neapolitan band Almamegretta, returns with a new musical work “Procida Ritual Project.”
The project, with a strongly anthropological and Mediterranean feel, conceived together with Leonardo Scotto di Monaco, an artist and scholar of local traditions, is developed within the “Procida Capital of Culture 2022” program and was created with the aim of enhancing tradition, protecting the past by projecting it into the future, preserving identities, making generations dialogue, with the aim of saving the enormous intangible cultural heritage of the island of Procida from extinction.
The key to the project is a database of “field-recordings” in the core of which we find the celebrated rites of Settimana Santa and the Processione dei Misteri: a veritable mine of identity made up of symbols that advance on the traces of centuries-old echoes.
The ancient matrices, which will remain recognizable, give rise to evocative paths of authorial reworking in an electronic key, with the contribution of important musicians such as Daniele Ubik (sax, percussion, hang and voices) and Marzouk Mejri (darbouka, Tunisian flute, voices and percussion).
Among the most evocative sources of inspiration is the “Menerio,” a large peasant bonfire that the people of the island used to light, ideally greeting the beginning of spring: a purification rite that in the past was introduced by invocations and drum rolls and that Procida Ritual Project brings back to life.
The first single “Ritual” resonates with devotional songs dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie, which the faithful chant in July: a kind of dialectal rosary with ancestral sounds and tones. And again, cues for the construction of this project come from the dialect novena that, at the end of October, on the long eve of the celebration of the dead, the faithful are wont to sing in a collective rite created to exorcise death.
RITUAL PROJECT PROCIDA also becomes the name of a live band, which aims to continue experimenting and researching, live and in the recording studio, from now on, through the publication curated by Salgari Records in digital format and on vinyl, in a limited edition of three hundred copies.
The graphics are by Federico Spini, who reworked the valuable photographic material by Roberta Riccio, in which the Turchini are portrayed during the Venerdì Santo procession.

Paul is a maker of music/DJ, with a releases catalog that tends to be adventurously open to all ends. For almost a decade he has shared groove-dedicated sets in underground venues in West and East. While he as a producer, is most commonly known for his electronica works, we continue to see him nourishing and expanding his club-oriented, off-kilter craft as a DJ and producer likewise.

He is co-running the Kontrapost music hub, which happens to see releases and new collaborations in 25 by such diverse artists as Xique-Xique, Pilocka Krach, or Mommo G. a Monika Werkstatt associate, and we are looking forward to the label's output during the next years! In this mix, we find it all together, classics, some unreleased by friends, and a glimpse into an upcoming Japanese Limo Boys Remix on kontrapost.
