A trip to cartagena for fun yielded the recording of a brilliant voice: in the crowded street, a man slinging "pescado-pescado" (fried fish)... 
My aunt, my dad  a baby & rattle,  plus some really drunk beach bums fell into the mix. 
Recorded and mixed in Cartagena and Brooklyn 2017.

This is the moment when recording music and the recording itself seduced me.

Every object has a light and a dark side

Corot's Trees is about to be released on Photoplay's first album. This is the album version sans vocals, recorded at Seaside Lounge in 2016 where we recorded our debut album. Me on piano, H. Leon Harris on drums, guitar and bass and Gary Olson on trumpet, with Jason Kelly engineering the sound.

Frankie came out of a collaboration with Max Kramer, who helped me record an vocal idea with no words, a sort of loop. Max added these groovy, lush rhythm saxophone parts and wrote a bassline. We found a cool place with it with my guitar and Herb's drums, which I love. 

This recording excerpted from the album version due out in September 2018 by Photoplay. Recorded at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn with H. Leon Harris on drums and bass, me on rhythm guitar, and Max Kramer on saxophone.

Frankie teaser

This is rehearsal recording of me and H Leon Harris in my mom's garage while we were on our way to play a show in Atlanta. I love his drums.
 
This song came about because my friend Dane Patterson and I decided to collaborate on something through email. We had gone to SVA together. We both make visual art and music among other things. I sent him a sample of one of the beats on the old Wurlitzer organ in the kitchen at Jewel Street, a push-button selection labelled “TEEN”. He took that, and along with other samples and mad scientist creations he sent me a rhythm track that was like a collage, to which I ended up writing Moon Said Sea. 

This song was a labor of love. I wrote it on the Casio pro-200 on an organ setting, despaired until I found the perfect solutions to each part, and called out of my job several times just to work on it.

Bloom for you is a dance song. This was an experiment in looping a small part of the instrumental and changing the mood of the melody.

Music for dancer/choreographer Natalie Green's solo work. We recorded live at our first rehearsal, improvising to each other. She recorded it on her phone and developed the piece to it. I did a bit of post-production.

Composition for two synthesizers and a chamber ensemble. 
The "mystic chord" is a fantastical chord construction by H Leon Harris. In attempting to play the chord I ended up writing this, by breaking some of its components into pieces of a melody.

Sciencetheme

H. Leon Harris is a Composer/Musician living in Brooklyn, NY. He currently performs and records as part of the dream pop group Photoplay, collaborates with the performance art avant/classical group Dirty Churches as well as recording solo compositions. Past projects include The Selmanaires and performing live with Atlas Sound, OMNI, and The Black Lips, as well as incidental music for the play "The Theory of Everything: Solve for X" by The Collective Project.
