Skylab - Theory Therapy E12

Patricia Wolf is an artist based in Portland, Oregon, who describes herself as a musician / sound designer / field recordist / DJ. It’s in the latter capacity that she features here, having put together the first Bandcloud Guest Mix of 2022. We’ve been in conversation a lot over the past year and a half or so, all basically stemming from my playing her track ‘Sauvie Island Wilderness Area’ from the Room40 compilation Particle Count on my radio show. Ducks aplenty.

This mix is a wonderful selection of ~ambient~ pieces from the recent past, ranging from Fennesz and Olivia Block to KMRU and Hiro Kone, Astrid Sonne and Penelope Trappes to William Basinski. It ranges from raucous and overpowering to subtly gentle, with melancholic piano leading into a whirlwind of samples as the mix reaches its conclusion.

Patricia’s got an album called I'll Look For You In Others coming out on Past Inside The Present soon – you can already preorder on Juno but Bandcamp links will be up shortly. I think tomorrow actually.

nueen’s (@nueen) sound drifts through a luminescent and recurring warm atmosphere, endlessly fluidic with delicate pads, indicating an aesthetic influence of the sun, light and mysticism, drawn from his native Mallorca. Nueen’s releases, for labels like Good Morning Tapes (@goodmorningtapes), C minus, Quiet Time Tapes (@quiettimetapes) and APPX (@appendixfiles): showcase a new Balearic rhythmic sound, fusing ambient with echoes of digitally constructed dub-techno.

An epic strings mix fit for a film, recorded in Chicago.

Theory Therapy 34 is a highly immersive strings recording pieced together by Concave Reflection aka Tommy Paslaski, one-third of Chicago-based group Purelink. The mix feels like a soundtrack to an on-screen drama, not just because strings are commonly used in films or that they can capture specific emotions so well, but also in the way that each of Tommy’s selections feel like subtle thematic shifts. 

As you may already know, we’re releasing an 11-track tape with Tommy on March 4th. It’s our first physical release as a label and we can’t wait for you to hear the full album. In the meantime, we feel like this mix and interview will more than suffice. Enjoy.

Something a bit more modern with this track im a big lover of UKG if you couldn't tell already.. It kind of has an almost Jump Up feel to it in how it switches between the intro and the drop, love how this one sounds hope you do too!
