Born in Rio, Dom Um Romão is considered to be one of the greatest living percussionists. He began his career by helping Sergio Mendes record a version of the classic Mas Que Nada in 1962. His early career was spent collaborating with such legendary figures as Frank Sinatra, Astrud Gilberto, Jorge Ben and Airto Morreira. He is best known as a founding member of the jazz fusion super group Weather Report, later replaced by Airto Morreira.
