First up in our mix series is co-founder and Bonsai resident PJ Ford. 

Having started out playing in the basement clubs of Fallowfield, we are buzzing that he has brought the sound of his sets to our first instalment of Bonsai mixes. 

PJ Ford will be joining us at our first party in Edinburgh for the Hector's crew in Edinburgh at Cabaret Voltaire on the 9th of July as well as our first Manchester pop-up party.

Bonsai 001 - PJ Ford (Bonsai)

Up next in our mix series is Shifting Sounds main man DJ Arnold.

When it comes to moving records, secret location raves and the toon, Shifting Sounds are at the pinnacle. From throwing parties in quarries to clubs and consistantly delivering a classy soundtrack, we had to ask DJ Arnold to put a mix down for us. 

Having partied with DJ Arnold at the likes of Dekmantel festival and multiple trips to OFF Sonar, we are fully aware of his great taste and his ear for a groover and we hope to have him play for us in the not too distant future.

Recorded vinyl only and including records from the likes of Bonsai favourite, Rhadoo, we hope you enjoy the mix as much as we did.

Bonsai 002 - DJ Arnold (Shifting Sounds)

For Bonsai 003 we are buzzing to have a very special mix from our pop-up party headliner at Eastern Bloc, Renzo.

Having shared the bill with Renzo as well as seen him play out at his own parties and warmed up for some of the greats, we are super grateful to have him come play for us in July. With this mix, we simply asked him to record his sound and he has done just that ... you will not be disapointed. 

For the last few years Renzo has been pushing his vinyl only record label and party, etiket, into the minimal and groove space and January saw it's first release which featured his own tracks as well as 2  from London based DJ C-Wendy. You can pick up a copy for your record bag here:

Bonsai 003 - Renzo (etiket)

For Bonsai 004, co-founder and resident, Alex Hogan has recorded a vinyl only mix in preparation for our first party at Eastern Bloc records on the 11th of July.

Alex began DJing in Scotland back in 2012 where he, along with his flatmates, used to throw regular after parties in their flat's basement in Leith (the infamous 69 Duke Street). From there he has gone on to hold down residencies at Hectors and FLY in Edinburgh for a number of years. 

Having an ever-growing vinyl collection and with our next party being a vinyl only affair, it only made sense to strip it right back and record using only 2 1210s and a mixer. 

The mix features records from the likes of Nick Beringer, Chris Stussy and Mandar. We hope you enjoy and we also hope that you can join us for a dance next month :)

Bonsai 004 - Alex Hogan (Bonsai)

This week we take our mix series journey down a new, darker path for this one as we have invited Manchester based producer and DJ, [IN]CLUDED to put together a mix that not only reflects his vibe, but also the sound of his productions. 

Having recorded a mix series of his own (link below) and played a number of late night jaunts in an undeclosed Castlefield location alongside both Bonsai residents, Alex Hogan & PJ For, we were thrilled that he said yes to the mix.

'...Mixes of seemless transitions with a journey vibe. A start, usually an uplifting end and some quirks along the way. Sasha, Midland, Guy J, I still think the Sasha Involver series are some of the best 'listening' mixes around and the recent James Zabiela Balance 029 mix is a benchmark of an exceptionally crafted mix....'

Bonsai 005 - [IN]CLUDED

With the sun baking down on Manchester and the temperature at 26 lovely degrees, we though it was perfect time to drop this one.

Rare, resident vibes from Alex Hogan .... The mix is an insight into what isolation has sounded like. With records from Janeret, The XX, Cardi B and London Grammar edits right through to liquid DnB.

With fezzy season on hold (for now), this mix is designed to take you back to the tent and fill your ears with festival vibes. So, grab a balloon, ur fave cross body and a snout and whack it up to 11.

Bonsai 039 - Alex Hogan (Bonsai) // Summer in Isolation Special

Alex has been on the scene for over 8 years now, having held down residencies in Scotland for FLY as well as Hectors and in Manchester for Trip and more recently his own project, Bonsai.

Bonsai has been running for just over a year now and has hosted parties up and down the country. They have secured a regular vinyl only affair at Manchester’s favourite record store, Eastern Bloc and last year brought Hide&Seek creator and You&Me head honcho, Josh Baker to Off The Square.

The mix is a blend of house, minimal and left field with a few white label surprises ;) 🍃
