@setaoc_mass is part of a select cut of young artists who are absorbing techno’s legacy and carrying the torch into tomorrow. Whilst overseeing his own imprint SK_eleven, his releases push a galvanising brand of techno, steeped in a sense of urgency, ever-propulsive with acute detailing and nods to a futuristic space-age. As a selector, the Mancunian’s extended DJ sets pull from an expansive spectrum of material both new and old.

For this edition, we’re joined by Belgium’s Antony Doria, whose powerful ‘Becoming Aware Of Things’ EP dropped on Symbolism last month and saw support from big guns such as ..Rodhad, Kr!z, Truncate, James Ruskin and, of course, Ben Sims.
No stranger to Symbolism, Antony also featured on the Synchronicity comp a couple of years back, and he has also graced Soma, Mord, Illegal Alien, and Dynamic Reflection with his material. Growing up in Belgium, Antony was hugely inspired by the legendary Fuse club and, in particular, regular selectors Pierre and Dave Clarke, influences that have made their way into his tough but hypnotic blend of Techno. Here, we have a 60-minute mix-up of fierce Machine Funk and Hardgrooves. Enjoy!

An habitué of seminal techno labels such as Rotterdamian outlet Mord Records and Spanish imprint PoleGroup, Portuguese producer Lewis Fautzi has been dishing out warehouse rippers one after the other this past decade. Now at the helm of his own structure, Faut Section, Fautzi keeps on serving up that fiery mix of no-nonsense industrial pound and mental techno ostinatos, ready to subjugate any crowd in its drop zone. Clearly not for the faint of heart, his blends combine the wildness of 909-powered trampling with untamed onslaughts of hypnotic synth furls and heavy-duty, aggro percussions gone rogue. Treat yourself to an absolute mind-boggler of a mix with this two-hour jaunt into Fautzi’s delectably murky sonic domain.

This next one comes by way of Olivia Mendez, a gifted DJ and insatiable vinyl lover, vinyl digger, whose groovy and mesmerising, techno emanates libertine energy from every pore. Growing up in France and influenced by Senegalese rhythms, early Detroit and the UK underground (where she cut her teeth for five long years). Her sound bridges cultures and genres, united by a shared affinity for beats, rhythm and the pursuit of a trance-like state. Her work strives to highlight a sonic kinship and broadcast a rendition of it seen through her own personal lens, that is, of someone whose own path has taken her from France and the UK to Germany, where she now lives and runs a tight ship, and frequently plays the usual list of big league venues. From her Berlin base, she’s founded DIG (Dust In Grooves), and co-created its sub-label DIG Curated alongside Chami, born out of a shared passion for uncovering the work of little known artists and preserving their sounds in circular form. She is also the founder of the FLINTA collective KONVENT, dedicated to establishing feminist cultural spaces through in situ music pieces and art interventions. Blending creativity, community, and a celebratory spirit, KONVENT provides enriching experiences while actively challenging patriarchal oppression. Politics, togetherness and music are the lifeblood of Mendez’s work, and her looping and groove-leaning sound the conduit through which her ethic manifests. Bassiani Podcast 239 marks the latest chapter, presenting this mission in its purest form: a two-hour journey weaving current aesthetics with nostalgic imprints. The progressive mix transitions from minimalistic rhythms to hypnotic, spacey, mental and groovy elements, punctuated by dreamy, suspended moments. This carefully paced journey is a condensed version of the type of progression she likes to explore in longer sets.

The Lady Machine is back for another round of Podcast fun for Bassiani Podcast 266. Born in Rio, based in Berlin, Camila Milieme developed an ear for techno at a young age, attending Brazil’s Galaktika parties and picking up tracks from radio show Novas Tendencias before landing her first gig at the fresh age of 21, and at the famed Bunker 94 in São Paulo no less. Following studies in music production in the UK, she eventually landed in Berlin and channeled everything into a dual career as DJ/producer. Her vinyl sets were, are, contagious and brimming with rapid-fire basslines, relying heavily on the type of techno à la Detroit that has been so foundational to the genre without aging a day. These ones she’s published on Mote Evolver, half of Unterwegs with musicmate Decka and resident at free-spirited Berlin party series Pornceptual. A successful crowd-DJ alliance is no easy task, but twenty years of experience have sharpened her instinct for sound and the people she’s playing it to. Driving techno that lurches along on a razor edge, slamming rhythms that vibrate through the body, the magical and unquantifiable substance that allows the very best raves to coalesce. Whatever it is she has it in spades and this latest instalment proves it. This recent number’s a cut from her live set at Bassiani in mid April; rampant grooves and low-end layers picked, welded together and distorted by this singular Brazilian talent, and mastered by @neptunemastering. The Lady Machine’s chopped-up beats are a techno purist’s dream, this newest arrival makes it reality.
