He’s back! 18 months have passed since he helped Holic Trax launch with the evergreen ‘Danceaholics’ EP, Mr G returns to Tomoki Tamura’s label with another session of insatiable tech soul. 
One of the most venerated men in techno, Colin McBean paints from a strictly timeless sound palette. Refusing to kowtow to any trends or fads, both he and his collection of analogue hardware have remained highly relevant and well respected for almost 15 years. Naturally this latest EP is no exception. 
We kick off with ‘A G Moment’. Strutting with Detroitian distinction, the groove is awash with thick woozy chords. Instantly captivating, they set the foundations for the dual vocal trickery that follows as the lead loop is complemented by swooning ‘oohs’ in the background. Undiluted galvanised soul, it’s G at his most playful and sonically seductive.
‘So Get Down’ follows with percussive panache. A forthright fusion of thundering kicks and rolling bongos, we’re soon introduced to a cheeky snippet of a very well-known vocal. Guaranteeing that your floor will ride on time, every time, the beautiful simplicity and solidity of this is matchless. 
A firing funk finale, ‘Whant It’ closes the show. Swaggering with full flavoured drum dynamics, Mr G’s trademark hip-shaking infectiousness is in full effect. With just enough space in the swinging rhythm to introduce a sexy, purring vocal and icy star-gazing pads, it’s yet another sensuous showdown.

Takecha is finally releasing an unreleased piece after more than 2 decades.

The next EP on Holic Trax, limited to 500 coloured vinyl, is a collaboration from Running Back & Desolat man Robert Dietz and Ibiza based house talent Tuccillo complete with a edit from Frenchman and Apollonia member, Shonky.
Robert Dietz has long been crafting essential tech house and minimal grooves on Desolat as well as his own labels, and Tuccillo has recently shot to fame off the back of EPs on labels like 2020Vision and Holic Trax. Together they are a hugely talented pairing as the three original tracks here prove.
Kicking off the EP is ‘Juice’, an amped up and full-blooded house cut with rattling metallic percussion,loopy sub bass and plenty of dancing potential. It’s quick, a little trippy and certainly engaging. Next up, ‘We Can’t Stop’ is less intense, but is still built on warm rubbery kick drums. Sharp edged percussive ticks help drive the thing along and act as little hooks that you cant help but latch onto.
Searching synths span the track’s horizon at the mid point and when it kicks once again there’s analien air to the thing that makes it a little bit spooky.
‘Ishine Ushine’ is a much more broken beat and playful affair, with tumbling drums and percussion,party starting horns and more loopy bass all coalescing into a funky, fun bit of house music.Last but not least, Shonky re-works ‘We Can’t Stop’ into a sleek, seductive and trance inducing house number with a constant groove that really pulls you in. It’s textbook Shonky and rounds out the vinyl in some style. Buy the EP digitally and you’ll also get a Shonky rework of ‘Juice’ that is fat, urgent, and
intricately groove driven.

Tomoki Tamura’s pure house label Holic Trax is back with more trend setting hits with this excellent new EP from Tuccillo, Djebali & John Dimas. Tuccillo is very much on a roll at the moment - he makes everything from deep house to tech to chill out to disco and does so on labels like Visionquest and 2020 Vision as
well as of course Holic Trax. Established in Ibiza some years ago, the creativity and style of his work has seen him in demand with heavyweights of the musical scene, and as such he is a regular on radio, in clubs around the world and atop many dance
music charts. For this EP, Tuccillo teams up with acclaimed producers John Dimas from Greece and Frenchman Djebali for a total of three tracks, whilst label head Tomoki Tamura also serves up one great edit. Up first is the fresh sounding ‘A View From’ with John Dimas. Lively and spritely, with groovy bass and energetic drums, this one is a bubbly, charming cut that cannot
fail to make you want to move on the dance floor. The two then team up for ‘Live 23’ which gets edited by Tamura into a much quicker and slicker, techno leaning effort
with rubbery bass and bleeps as well as some soulful and emotive pads. ‘Atuler' feat Djebali then gets back to a more jacking style with firm hits and lots of reverb making for a fat bottomed groove. Some garage percussion adds an irresistible sense of skip to the track and some carefully treated vocals float about
inside it adding yet another fine layer.
Then comes vinyl only bonus ‘1st Floor,’ again with Djebali. This brilliant track is subtle and deep, seductive and filled with soul. As well as being driven forward at an inviting pace, more mysterious voices pan left and right and trap you right at the heart
of the lush atmospheres this pair create.
This is another tasteful EP of no nonsense modern house music that is stuffed with real feeling and plenty of proud production aesthetics.

Tomoki Tamura’s essential and refreshing label, Holic Trax collects together new house heat for a third
volume of it irregular Tom Tam Club series. Across both a digital and 2 x 12” vinyl release the compilation
offers plenty of club-ready highlights.
Having released music from producers around the world including Rick Wade, Burnski, Tuccillo and many
more, the label has become a favourite with DJs and dancers alike. Now it turns to a mix of new and more
established names for a collection of eight new cuts that offer something for everyone.
Up first is duo, Rough Principles, made up of established producers Ekkohaus & Moire Patterns of labels
like Moon Harbour. Their ‘Pool Back’ is a rubbery, spritely house track with rolling beats and bass and
thick, late night synths that exude real soul.
Grecian Mr. Statik - a big name in his native country as both a DJ resident and producer on BPitch Control
- then gets a little freaky on his ‘Habitual Nastiness.’ There is plenty of slap funk in his drums and intrigue
in his mysterious melodies. It is then to Moon Harbour mainstay and Italian tech king Marco Faraone for
‘Point,’ which is a stripped back, grainy and lo-fi basement house offering with dubby chords and a real
sense of rawness to it.
UK producer and Needwant associate Ashworth keeps things scintillatingly melodic with his spine
tinglingly eerie and spacious minimal track ‘Copenhagen’ before fellow Englishman Brunbjrn gets all stab
happy with the loose limbed, perfectly DIY sounding and ramshackle house grooves of his effusive
‘M'about Ta’.
Dubinsky, who has released on Foals man Ed Congrave’s Deep Shit label prefers a more mid tempo and
airy vibe. His exquisitely jazzy, sun kissed and playful ‘Viol Groove’ is a perfect piece of feel good house
music at its best, then Leftback label boss Dudley Strangeways does his trademark trippy, minimal house
thing on ‘Brown Leaves’, which is a heady, hypnotic and late night track designed for the small hours.
Finally, Baslow’s ‘Closer’ rounds out this excellently varied compilation with a lush broken beat, classic
vocal sample and some truly romantic emotions.
This compilation goes from sun kissed to sweaty and back again, and proves that label boss Tomoki
Tamura really has his finger on the pulse when it comes to enlisting standout producers from across the
world scene.

No nonsense house stable Holic Trax turn to accomplished producer and DJ Ekkohaus for their next EP. The Greek producer serves up four brilliantly robust jams that come on limited 12” coloured vinyl (with a bonus track) as well as digitally.
Ekkohaus has been leading the house scene from the front for more than a decade now. His infectious, perfectly paired down and groove driven style is experimental as well as being much loved by DJs and dancers. He has turned out a fine full length on regular label home Moon Harbour and singles on others like Mule, Cargo Edition, 2020 Vision and Holic Trax before now.
Up first here is ‘Corner People,’ with a prying synth line that burrows deep into the night as blobs and droplets of colour rain down next to it. The underlying drums are slick and smooth and the overall effect is brilliantly hypnotic. The fantastically fresh ‘Shout It Out’ then goes fast and deep into a world of liquid pads and spiralling chords. Whispered vocals add a sensual heat and the swiftness of the groove cannot fail to carry you away in fine fashion.
‘New Tricks’ has meaty, roughhewn drums driving it along and is nice and frayed and analogue around the edges. Curious stabs and rattling, DIY perc sounds percolate up through the mix on this most macho of deep house tracks. Lastly, vinyl only effort ‘Because of You’ is a slick, syrupy deep house cut with wavy, bendy tones, terrifically playful melodies and a charming sense of colour littering it from start to finish.
This EP is stuffed with perfectly feel good house music that works the soul as well as the sole.

Monoklo is a new sub label of Holic Trax that focuses on darker, deeper techno and house sounds, away from the more groovy and soulful offerings of the well established main label. After the success of the first release by Ivan Iacobucci, which saw support from the likes of Arpiar, Vidionquest & Laurent, the label now enlists Martin Lewis for three hot tracks featuring a remix from label boss man and Japanese don Tomoki Tamura.
Lewis is a Berlin based DJ and live set specialist who has been collecting vinyl all his life. He blends together his life’s worth of influences into off kilter dance music that has impressed those who matter. It comes on labels like Exploited and Hollic Trax as well as Freebase Records and this newest release is the latest in a long line of success for the man.
No nonsense opener ‘The Wax’ is a supple, rubbery roller with sparse stabs accompanying the infectious groove. Bubbly and restless and littered with odd voices and scurrying little bacterial sounds, it is a fun yet functional way to kick off the EP. The brilliantly dream like ‘Poetry’ then sinks down into a more warming and human groove, with smeared synths bringing colour and heat to a loose house groove.
The final excellent original is ‘Drumcatch,’ which is a choppy techno track with stormy solar winds and reflective hi hats glistening above a jumbled drum line. There are some old school, rave signifiers along the way that help make it all the more charming, and this is the track that Tomoki Tamura also remixes. His version is stripped right back to a suggestive, infectious final groove with feather light percussion, skewed chords and involving sub bass that laps at the heels of the track.
This new sub label is as fresh as exciting as Holic Trax itself yet offers something slightly different for DJs and dancers everywhere.

Holic Trax off shoot Monoklo hits a third firing release now with a new EP from Verrina & Ventura.
Verrina & Ventura are an Italian pair who make fresh house and techno sounds and run the All Inn, Only 300 and HOWL labels. They are busy people who put out a lot of music and here serve up some brilliantly unhinged sounds for this darker, more club focussed series.
Up first, ‘Metaluna’ is a freaky track with shimmering voices and prickly, ticking percussion all underpinned by warm belches of sub-bass. It’s a late night cut with plenty of unhinged atmosphere in its glitchy grooves. ‘Ork’ is less kinetic and more settled in a bulky, heavyweight groove. Scraping perc and icy hi hats bristle and brim as muted synth stabs bring some colour and soul to the party.
The deep and delicious ‘Dhrawn’ has big techno hi hats and more glitching, patchy machine sounds all run through with warming chords. Trilling vocals go off in the distance and the whole thing manages to be emotive and human as well as devastatingly direct and dancefloor orientated. Last of all, ‘Nihil’ is another visceral track with industrial synths, scurrying bass and sliding drums that makes you want to jerk your body.
This is a brilliantly off balance EP full of arresting and inventive grooves aimed squarely at the floor.

This "Edition 1 of 5iVE YEARS HOLIC TRAX" is immediately obvious from the title that Mr.G's "Jumon EP". Pays homage to the label's Japanese heritage, 
A1 "Soba Shioyaki" is a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. Deep but tough, it's a perfect example of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. B1 "Komorebi" puts a tougher emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here.

Their four-track contribution starts with “Do It”, a spiky catchy number that’s exciting from the off. “What Row” sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before “To Ray” ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. Wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only “You Know”, a real bumper of a track with Chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes.
It’s the left to Tamura himself to close the offering via HT25. A1, the appropriately named “5ive Years’ is a techno workout of the type that’s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. Unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it’s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. “Polyphonic Six” displays the producer’s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that’s hard not to embrace. All things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from Tamura & co. Here’s to the next 5!
