Glenn Morrison’s ‘Into The Deep’ series was widely celebrated in 2016 with a deluge of support from electronic composers and artists around the world, with Pete Tong calling Glenn Morrison the ‘unsung hero of the summer’ on BBC Radio 1 during the Essential Selection for his ‘Into The Deep (Ewan Pearson Remix). This album was a rebirth for the underground sound of what Glenn Morrison has represented for over a decade now as a celebrated electronic musician, as well as the showcasing of his new label Fall From Grace Records (www.fallfromgracerecords.com).

We are presented in the fall of 2017 with a new chapter from Glenn and his sound of cutting edge electronic music. Being released as a limited edition press double pack 12” vinyl with a spattering of uniquely composed club originals, there is also terrific and refreshingly forward thinking remixes by legendary Grammy Award winning composer David Morales, Underworld borne Darren Emerson, the live and modular Colin Benders, Italian wunderkind Dusty Kid, the M83/Goldfrapp writer and producer Ewan Pearson, and many more friends of Glenn. All of these artists have provided their own creative interpretation on Glenn’s pieces and the final result is an album rich with great musical content and plenty of soul. ‘Dark Waters’ marks a high point for both the Fall From Grace record label and for Glenn Morrison himself.

The first act of the mix, somewhat appropriately called ‘Prefatory’, comes off as an orchestral and piano swell that blurs the line between Glenn Morrison’s classical composition background and his electronic musings. It is an impressive display of creative writing and this record sets the tone for the rest of Glenn’s album, with ‘Stranger Things’ harkening to the John Carpenter 80’s arpeggiated synthesizer riffs, and that atmospheric depth in all of Glenn’s new recordings is a direct result of his latest mastering studio room build at Alpine Mastering (www.alpinemastering.com). There are slightly jauntier works from the likes of ‘Tension’ and ‘Cocoon’ - records suitable in a hazy DC 10 environment or a Robert Johnson set. The build design on the album works like the tide of an ocean - the ebb and flow of the various intensities and energies keeps the listener engaged, and this variety of great music gives the listener something more than what they would hear on a free podcast or mix. From the midsection onwards there is a build that begins with a series of restrained house tracks, including the 11.30 minute epic saga ‘Nuclear Ramjet’ and the hauntingly beautiful ‘Twisted’.

The overarching motif on this album is the use of floating arpeggiated melodies that carry the vibe throughout and this intermixing or sprinkling of brash percussive rhythms and rave sensibilities gives the album such a unique quality to it. The album ends with a touching tribute to Glenn Morrison’s grandfather who passed away recently, and ‘Poppa’ is an uncompromisingly melancholy affair with countermelodies intertwining with the floating sway. It is a fitting end to an emotional, thoughtful, and downright beautiful collection of tunes.

It’s been two years since Stefan Z last released on this label, but the three tracks he serves up prove the wait has been more than worth it.

The Berlin based Canadian is the boss of the Rhombus label and is a top electronic production talent. He makes his sounds stand out with slick vocals or moving melodic elements, most likely because of his formally trained piano and trumpet playing skills. He’s had support from the likes of Sasha, Solomun and Adriatique, and his label parties in Vancouver were key in developing the city’s underground scene.

The super title track goes first and is a freaky number with spacecraft circling the groove, building tension in the melodic riffs and futurism in the drums. It’s a dramatic track with heavy, lumpy kicks and one to jolt the floor into action.

‘Borni’ is another long and involving tune, this time with more mystery and suspense in the way it builds. The drums get you marching as synths and ghoulish motifs pan about to creepy effect. It’s a real set building track that keeps you on edge.

Lastly, ‘Cipe’ is the toughest of the lot, with stiff hits and withering cosmic chords speaking of an intergalactic war. Underpinned by warm bass, it’s a widescreen cinematic affair with real beauty in the pads that eventually take over the show.

All three tracks here are mini epics that really take you on a trip.

We’ve listen to this track so many times that we’ve lost track of time. “Time” is an absolutely stunning track from Pachanga Boys, the duo of Rebolledo and Superpitcher. It clocks in at almost 16 minutes, but we still can’t enough of it. From their recently vinyl-only EP “Girlcatcher” on their Hippie Dance imprint. Limited to 300 coloured vinyl, including artprint-inlay and handsigned postcard. Grab it while you can here.

My tastes evolved from Trance into Progressive then into Progressive Breaks. At that time Phil K was one of the pioneers of the genre, pumping out classics like Lydian & the Dinosaur with Andy page and Burma with Luke Chable.

Phil was one of the reasons I decided to give up my life in the UK and move to Australia in search of something different. Maybe I'd fit in, in a place where the music I loved brought everyone together.

After a 17 month break from releasing music, La Fleur’s Power Plant imprint begins 2019 with conviction, as the label boss delivers an outstanding two-track work. 

A passion project since 2010 for the Swedish artist, Power Plant has allowed Sanna La Fleur Engdahl a chance to explore her artistic passions, free from any creative constraints. 

She begun the Power Plant ‘Elements’ fashion line in 2016, collaborating with designer Stacey DeVoe to create a collection focusing on androgynous design and geometric cuts. While her passion for the visual arts has seen her source talented painters and illustrators for the label’s cover slicks, including Olaf Hajek, Hans Arnold and Dan Hillier, a process she revels in. In 2012 she would curate and exhibit Arnold’s work at a gallery in Stockholm as part of the record release party for her ‘Eavesdropper’ EP.

Maintaining her connection with her Nordic roots, La Fleur secured the talents of respected Swedish-French designer David Karcenti to create the cover for her latest EP, ‘Aphelion’, after the artist first worked with Power Plant during its conception, designing the original logo. His beautiful sleek design grounded with nature makes a perfect accompaniment to La Fleur’s original work.

Refusing to put any deadline to her creative process, the ‘Aphelion’ EP as we know it begun to take form towards the end of 2017. “I wanted to take a step back and really think about what I wanted to do with the label and allow the project to take shape naturally, so it took some time,” she says.

The stirring ‘Hunting Grounds’ was birthed first, a brilliant masterclass of groove-drenched dynamics brimming with personality and spirit, characterised by a vocoded vox stabs and a killer synth line, that already saw it highlight her sets for Cercle and last year’s acclaimed Essential Mix. Always one to conjure a visual aesthetic to match her musical expression, she says: “I wanted to create an atmosphere of being in the wilderness and evoke a sense of open space.”

‘Aphelion’s’ foundations are built on deftly crafted drums, before the Swede’s distinct flair for melody sees sublime chords fill the space. “Aphelion is the point in the orbit when the planet is the farthest from the sun, so I wanted to give this an otherworldly vibe with the chords and the melody loop.”

After a brief hiatus last year, La Fleur is buoyed by the plans set for the label in 2019. “I’m excited to begin a new era for Power Plant, focusing on fresh artists and label events and deeper sound explorations. There are no limits or boundaries!”

El Campo is the latest project from Alexi Delano and Javier Orduna. Ignited after analogue studio sessions in the Spanish countryside, the pair have been able to explore and create sounds for which they share a mutual passion. The end result being this EP produly released on Rebellion.

"We’d spoken for a long time about going out to the Spanish countryside and writing music inspired by the surroundings. At last we found the time and the right location to seclude ourselves and dive into its tranquility. No audio pollution, just the sound of the wind blowing through the fronds of the palm trees just outside our studio window. We soon found ourselves in a kind of meditative state and the songs began to write themselves."

The EP opens with the gritty industrial beat of ​El Regado. E​ mploying deep whirring melodies, the rushing breakdown is highly complimented by elegant keys. Next up, the hypnotic sounds of ​La Siembra ​are fuelled by ethnic strings and wind instruments, underpinned by a pulsating beat. ​Las Semillas ​closes the EP with a pacey tempo, otherworldly pads, melancholic strings and an abundance of percussion.

Born in Chile, raised in Sweden and later adopted by New York, ​Alexi Delano ​has produced six albums and released on labels such as Minus, Plus 8, Drumcode, Visionquest, Get Physical and Spectral Sound. Spanish export ​Javier Orduna has held down a residency at the prestigious Moog Club in Barcelona alongside a worldwide touring schedule. He’s also released records on respected imprints including Visonquest, VIVa Music, R&S and Chapter 24.

2019 was a massive musical year for Khen. He unleashed multiple projects that will be hammered on dance floors around the globe for the foreseeable future. His 'April Storms' track was featured on Hernan Cattaneo's Balance album, he remixed Marino Canal on Lost & Found and put out one of the best selling Beatort tracks of the summer with 'Where Is Home' alongside Guy Mantzur on Bedrock. 

Most recently, he debuted on Lee Burridge's new TRYBESof imprint and is now back for yet another debut on highly regarded French producer Sébastien Léger's 'Lost Miracle'.

He reclined and leant backwards in his seat as the engines whirled with promise beneath him. For the next few hours he would let the spaceship cruise as it floated and drifted between the endless stars. The machine was in autopilot and would drift for as long as he let it. There was little to see but for the thick black mist which hung outside the window, he watched as the flickering lights out there floated and danced as if they were some magnificent firework display created just for him. He never looked back to earth. 

Flug 8's "Space Techno" EP gets the remix treatment from a wonderful collection of producers including Yuan, LOR and Process Control. However, it is the Sascha Funke remix which leads up the acclaimed affair.
