i have no electric instruments or band now (thanks corona) and this is a lil diddy i've been singing to sooth myself, i hope you find it soothing too.

It's the streets blood red from the glow of a lone stop light
it's the last cigarette ahead of an AM flight
you were born to this world as a knife to a gun fight

When you left all the teeth in my head turned into graphite
and the words that they made eat away at this page like termites
I don't always say what I mean but lately I've been thinking all about our own extinction
baby?

Cause I dwell in the bittersweet
my brother's in the nursery
I always dream but cannot see a day or two in front of me
and written into tree trunk bark, a song that isn't half as smart
but as far as the content goes, I loved it all more than you know

And much like the first snowfall,
I'm there,
and then I'm gone again.
Now I finally understand that I am no more than
the sound of waves
on sand.

a cold so relentless I've been dripping
down my nose into the bathroom drain

if the boarding house is a ballbearing 
the wheels still aren't spinning
though they're slick, like the layer of oil covering the kitchen 
where you told me 
your wife left you for a cult 
and the kettle screamed as I wondered what she lacked in your home 

bad dreams, cold rain, coffee too weak 
nights too long, coke too strong, the people can't sleep 
the mattress on the fire escape has been empty for weeks
all of us just phantoms passing
no one ever speaks

is that the moon
no, it's a high rise
circle window lit up yellow from the inside 
man, I could lay down and die 
like a street lamp in the morning
beneath San Telmo skies

Home Despot is the newest project of Boston-based artist Sophia Belle. A continuation of their meticulously-crafted songwriting, they use blues-drenched vocals and electric grit to carve out a space in the uncharted territory of apocapunk dark folk. 

From Argentina to Czechia to the streets of their homecity Somerville, Sophia Belle has been performing for nearly a decade. They recently won first place in The Lizard Lounge songwriting competition finals and were selected to play in a womxn festival at Brighton Music Hall.
