The first phrase of Bach's Prelude No.1 in C Major translated to all seven diatonic modes using simple tonic-octave equivalence for major and minor modes. This piece was not so much composed as it was hand computed. Dorian mode was based on the hypothesis that Dorian's most powerful progressions are along the brightness vector going back and forth between major and minor chords whereas the other modes most powerful progressions are along the affinity vector.
