Over the Lancashire Hills

A song about 'Tabshag' who lived at the base of the Tower on the Moor at Woodhall about 150 years ago. He was regarded with suspicion by some locals, many of whom thought he might be some kind of elf or bogle . . . .

Tabshag

We wanted to write a traditional sounding folk song - so this is it! A song about two people who meet each other by happenstance, and decide to follow the same road through life together. Also includes an Irish tune called The Munster Cloak.

This is our version of this song John Ward, a singer-songwriter from Lowestoft in Suffolk. It's about the herring-lassies, who followed the herring shoals down the east coast of the UK between the mid-nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries. Some of the lassies settled in East Anglia . . .

Stornoway to Lowestoft

The song tells the story of John Wield, and his life and work; he was a photographer and archivist who recorded the development of Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire from a small hamlet into a thriving Spa resort in the early 20th century. We wrote this song as an entry for the BBC Song for Lincolnshire competition 2015.
