This DJ mix is a collection of some of my favorite dub mixes (those Dub Reggae-inspired remixes on the flips of disco & house 12"s that have most, but not all, of the vocal stripped away, replaced with a ton of heavy, psychedelic effects on top). 
People have been putting dub mixes on their singles for at least 40 years, so I've tried to go through the eras and give a taste of how things have evolved. Hope you like it :)

Chrissy is a genre-bending DJ/producer with releases on 17 Steps, Dansu Discs, Super Rhythm Trax, Chiwax, Classic, Freerange, Razor N Tape, Nervous, and more. He specializes in rave-influenced sounds, Chicago house, and disco, but his 20-year career has ranged from jungle to footwork to freestyle, with gigs at Panorama Bar, Smartbar (where he held a residency from 2015-2018), and his residency at San Francisco’s oldest and most storied queer club, The Stud.
 
Chrissy is also a well-regarded voice on dance music history—he ran the popular “My Year of Mixtapes” blog, posting original genre-focused DJ mixes every week for a year. He wrote the liner notes for Hardcore Traxx: Dance Mania Records 1986-1997, and has written about dance music history for RBMA, XLR8R, and Electronic Beats.

As a Chicagoan, @Jacob-Meehan broadcast signals from behind the console at WLUW 88.7FM, behind the counter at Gramaphone Records, behind the decks at Smart Bar, and behind the scenes as a co-founder of the Men's Room parties. Berlin-based since 2016, he's the program director and a resident DJ of @radio-buttons & an organizing member of  WHOLE - United Queer Festival.

Coincidentally traveling to the US for some gigs at the end of February 2020, Meehan found himself back in Illinois for the following 18 moths, this set was recorded at the Mizz Softee party in Brooklyn, NY before his return to Berlin.

He also co-hosts the excellent @Nightshade_FM radio show, broadcasting live on Cape Cod Community Radio stations WOMR / WFMR.

Soul'siss

This mix was born out of a 2015 closing party for North Florida's
then-longest operating gay club. By the time it was recorded, the owner
(and club's namesake) had passed, there were few original patrons left,
and profits over people prevailed. The party's audience was segregated
and I requested to play in the main room for the OGs.

The music is actually comprised mostly of CDs and CD singles. There is
one piece of vinyl. It was recorded live. Scene folks forget what a
driving force the CD single format was in the club from the late-1980s
until the early-2000s. Especially in Europe. They forget the
side-by-side Denons in the booth that took abuse, and the early tabletop
CD decks of the mid-1990s. A lot of us stateside kids didn't have much
pocket money. CD singles gave more bang for your buck and often featured
exclusive versions, no matter what territory they were produced.

You'll hear the sounds of my early '90s life as succinctly as 77 minutes
will allow. Don't be fooled by the first track. Settle in: you'll get
New York, Chicago, Detroit, England, Germany and more. From François K
to Paul Oakenfold, Kevin Saunderson to Sasha, and Robert Owens to
Underworld, this is one minor cross-section of me. Enjoy with an open
mind."

Alison is also a published writer on electronic dance music culture and
gender studies. She will be published by Oxford University Press in the
second edition of the educational-standard 'Trans Bodies, Trans Selves',

Shaun J. Wright (@shaunjwright) is an underground staple in their hometown of Chicago who has more recently been found DJing around the world. With over a decade as a creator, musician and artist, Wright came to prominence through their work with Hercules and Love Affair and via the label Twirl they run today with Alinka.  Shaun is a champion of queer identity within dance music and outside of it. Traditionally a house DJ, Shaun recently played 2 unannounced techno sets at Buttons in Berlin to high acclaim, and their set at Basement was no different.  They kicked off an amazing 1st night for Balance playing 10pm-2am.
