In the wake of Ninety's massive 'Cave Runner' EP, Dread Or Dead Records look to continue their 2021 takeover with an immediate return, presenting Duckem's latest project, 'Spinal's Army' EP. Duckem has consistently made moves for a while now, surfing through the deep sounds of wave to energetic grime and, as demonstrated today, the dark dungeons of 140. Focusing on what is my favourite side to his productions, 'Spinal's Army' EP harbours two of Duckem's latest dark creations alongside two mirroring remixes by B-Say and Saraphim. After a wild remix EP featuring the most respected of dons last month, the prolific label returns this week with a debut from emerging Canadian producer, Nahlith. Taking influence from beloved festivals of his native country such as Shambhala, he conjures up the energy that so often descends onto these festivals, an energy that so many have been starved of over the last eighteen months. For their next release, the German label takes a 'natural' step from digital exclusives to a physical record. 'Natural Selection' is the label's maiden vinyl and a faultless double LP compilation that spans eight tracks by eleven producers who've previously featured on the label. It's a global celebration of dubstep in 2021 including todays premiere 'Memories', by the always impressive American producer, Mikrodot.

With the unmatched pedigree that FatKidOnFire has built over the last decade, the label has a well earned power to reattract some of the genres finest producers of the past. For instance Simon Horne, one half of genre defining duo Nanobyte, returns to FKOF as Konessi this month alongside fellow producer and bass connoisseur, Ry Edwards. FKOFd053 is Konessi's second outing as a duo following 'Mr Shadow' EP on Kokeshi last year and one where they truly find their feet. Five tracks across multiple tempos is a first for the label, whereby Konessi develops a world of depth and euphoria including today's premiere, 'Shiva'.

Like all good labels should, Foto Sounds have spent the majority of their successful year searching far and wide for new producers to add to the roster, welcoming the likes of Volume A, Ohmtrix and Itmek in the process. Whilst branching out is always a good thing, the Foto crew finish their year by welcoming back one of my favourites to feature on the label so far, Gnasha. Returning for the first time since the huge 'Contortion' EP debut last year, Gnasha delivers her darkest material yet in the shape of 'Tainted' EP, featuring four tracks of brooding darkness and frosty eastern textures, perfect for the time of year including today's premiere, 'Sullen'.

The latest premiere to land on Honey & Bass allows us to indulge in something that hasn't occurred for a while - a first time feature on the blog for both record label and artist! Bristol's Spektiv makes a return to Transparent Audio with 'Pressure' EP this week, albeit in a different form compared to what the drum & bass specialists have become accustomed to. Experimenting at a different tempo, Spektiv produces three 'Honey & Bass friendly' tunes by bringing his big sounds to the 140 spectrum. He also takes the expertise of NoSine onboard for a killer collab and today's premiere, 'Empty Club.

We begin 2023 as we intend to go on - highlighting underrated talent that stand ready to make a big impact! From slick minimal pieces to full bodied sub-shaking weapons, it's been fascinating to witness the growth of 7Kidz's sound over recent years. The Belgian producer kicks off his year with a release on the equally impressive and underrated Too Much Collective. Following a heavyweight project from Jamzigg in November and a track from n/less, the label continues to give a platform to those looking to rise the ranks of the genre and 7Kidz grabs the bull by the horns with this one by producing a killer no skips EP. However out of the four tracks on TMC012, 'Dirty Job' particularly hits the spot for me, which is why I have the pleasure of presenting it in full today!

After a few years of building one of the most exciting and reliable platforms in the genre, Infernal Sounds opened up another avenue in 2021 with a desire to introduce new talent to the label. Moving from a sole focus on physical vinyl releases, IFS's digital exclusive series has brought a slew of new names to the roster including Khanum, Mungk, Substrada and most recently, Mythm, Oxossi and Kodama. And with two years of these regular releases under their belt, we're treated to an album version, 'Future Forms', where these familiar names and even more roster debutants come together to contribute some of their finest cuts! Today I have the pleasure of presenting the record's finale track 'Ey!', courtesy of one of my long time favourite producers, Soukah.

The Honey & Bass Sessions finally returns! 

I'm not going to even state how long it's been (far too long), but the guest mix series is hopefully here to stay. Getting things back into gear is long time follower of the blog and dubstep aficionado, Reap_Eat. The Cali based selector has been doing his own thing to express his passion for the genre with a highly underrated mix series of his own, laying out some of the best dubstep has to offer and, like todays series, offers hidden gems that you may have been unaware of previously. 
Reap_Eat demonstrates impeccable taste throughout this hour of the freshest 140 flavours, including music from the genre's current heavyweights like @causa, @ternionsound and @thekercha.

LDH Records have quickly become one of those no nonsense labels that we can all rely on and expect to bring the heat upon each release. Whether its's a limited vinyl project, a digital exclusive or like today, a heavyweight collaborative project that stretches across the globe, LDH is the place to be if you're a fully signed up dubstep fan in 2023. Alabama's SerpentEyes joins the LDH crew this week and brings some of that dirty southern 140 to the label alongside international friends, Morning High and Legend4ry. It's a triple threat that includes some very distinct flavours, none more so than today's premiere 'Tunnels'.

Birmingham's Delta continues to make a notable rise within the scene this year and his best yet lands on Too Much Collective! Following releases from 7Kidz and Joe Big in recent months, Delta's 'Final Judgement' EP is another heavy hitting collection of tracks to feature on the Bristol imprint. It's a four track exploration of his dark and atmospheric sound which hits it's darkest depths during today's premiere, 'Shipwreck'.

We return this week with a short but intriguing project once again from the boys in Belgium. For their latest project, growing label Bassin Records welcomes back who you will previously know as Gullivr, but in a new form that goes by the name of Ensarr. His latest moniker's debut, 'Transit' EP, delivers three tempo-travelling tracks that expresses Ensarr's desire to reach right across the spectrum from 140 upwards. With two tracks topping out at 176bpm, I've of course gone for 'Moon' for today's premiere, the sole 140 heater!

Whether it's drum & bass or any form of dubstep, Norman Foreman have remained open minded and all encompassing since it's inception in 2021. However for their next project, the New Zealand label sets it's sights on the roster's 140 capabilities by producing a short compilation, consisting of four huge tracks by four emerging NZ talents. Bristol based label Locus Sound have certainly put a shift in since launching in 2017. Throughout their eleven releases, they haven't been scared to put some fairly unknown figures into the spotlight, giving them a chance to unveil their fresh, innovative sounds to the world and in turn, becoming one of the most freshest, forward-thinking labels about. From fiery digital EPs by Ceramics (LOCUS006), Sedan (LOCUS009) and particularly Ourman (LOCUS008) who's since made some serious moves, Locus Sound most recently made their way to a first vinyl release where SBK had the honour of displaying his original material on 'Kingdom Of Sobek' (LOCUSV001). And now, the label rounds off the year with their first compilation LP, featuring ten original tracks and a solid group of fresh faces as well as a couple more familiar to the label.
Today we have the pleasure of showcasing SBK's offering, where he returns to the label in style with the ice cold sounds of 'Naiads'.

After a quick rise to prominence over the last year or so, landing on a host of respected labels, French 140 wizard Ourman continues the momentum with 'Pacing' EP on one of my favourite stateside imprints, Silent Motion Records. Like many of Silent Motion's releases, SMD040 features a selection of original high quality tracks, plus an equal amount of heavyweight remixes by some of the best emerging producers around. Amidst a year seemingly dominated by bad news, the pioneering Deep Dark & Dangerous have made it their mission to guide us through the turbulence, showing what can be done to avert our attention, for just a moment, away from the gloom that can so easily infest ones mind. From a schedule of cutting-edge releases more consistent than ever, to the trail blazing 'Quarantine Sessions' and the successful launch of a Bandcamp subscription service, the DDD gang can be proud of their innovative work and their shining light that persistently beams over the entire genre. But their work isn't done yet, 'tis the season of giving after all. For our final premiere of 2020 it's with great pleasure to present a track from the label's annual Christmas album, as always packed to the rafters with exclusive, larger than life remixes. And this isn't just any remix, this is Cartridge's monumental 'Show Dem' remix, originally by label heads, Truth. However that's just one of the many treats stuffed into this years Deep Dark & Dangerous Christmas stocking!

After listening to the 'Lost In Rave' EP last year by Leo Cap, the 140 alias of DnB heavyweight Black Barrel, I knew it was just the beginning of his venture into Dubstep and that he was sitting on some huge tunes, but not this huge! It's no surprise to see a label with the pedigree that Deep Dark & Dangerous has to recognise Leo Cap's impressive sound with such enthusiasm. Faced with what I can only assume was an entire catalogue's worth of irresistible heat, DDD were unable to restrain themselves, deviating from the usual schedule of four track releases and instead, decide to showcase six of the Russian's monster 140 tunes including today's premiere, the EP's title track, 'Let Me Tell You Something'.
