One of the first songs I ever wrote back in early 80s. I had just signed a record deal and was so fed up with lawyers and contracts and all the gobbledygook they use to bewilder the artist. I played my telecaster Custom and most of the other sounds came from an ARP Odyssey I had at the time. Recorded at home on a Fostex 1/4" 8 track, it never was released for perhaps obvious reasons!

Working Relationship

On 9th Dec 1980, the day John  Lennon's death was made public Paul Brady and his band played The Sportsmans Inn in Dublin. The band was Paul Brady acoustic guitar and vocal, Fran Breen drums, Jimmy Faulkner electric guitar, Artie McGlynn pedal steel, Tommy Moore bass and James Delaney piano.

In 2003 I wrote and recorded this song after a trip to Havana. For some daft reason at the time I decided to call the song The Hawana Way (instead of Havana) and sang the lyric as such. Recently I edited the recording so I now sing 'Havana'.  Get this? ....Neither do I!  Anyway enjoy!

Although the popular version of Crazy Dreams from the 1981 cd Hard Station was built on a demo begun in Dec 79, this different recording from 1980 was the first version ever released. Recorded in London s Olympic Studios in the summer of that year by John Wood and mixed by Brian Masterson at Windmill Lane it was released as a single that October to accompany the first Paul Brady Band tour of Ireland and was a hit in Ireland. Featuring Peter Van Hooke on drums, Mark Isham on Flugelhorn, Billy Livesy on piano and Mo Foster on bass, it always seemed a little too fast to me and when it came to recording the album I went back to re-work the original demo for the album which cam out the following spring.
