This updated version of my lyric poem came out of a discussion with a friend who made me realize I had not then been humbled enough, and at 77 I've been humbled a lot. I am always grateful to anyone who can open my eyes to the bottomless well of my humanity, mirky as the water in it is from my own error and folly. The line in the song to "sprawling on a pin" is a reference to T.S. Eliot's poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock."

I aspire to write lyric poetry to touch people, either to make them happy, or to touch their sadness and let them know they are not alone.
