‘Etchings of Birds, Swimming in Song’ is the debut EP, set to be released in May 2019, by Hoo:Lumes. Huddled around a singular microphone on their back porch in West Asheville, Hoo:Lumes recorded ‘Etchings’ amidst the sounds of birds building their nests for the spring. 

The warmth and intimacy of the EP showcases powerful songwriting that offers commentary on desire, materialism, loneliness and longing with grace and wit. ‘Etchings’ invites the listener into its comforting atmosphere, and can be a trusted companion on long drives, walks in the woods, curling into bed after a challenging day or reveling in the morning with a cup of coffee.

Hoo:Lumes’ magnetic performance evokes immediacy with their soulful, folk-tinged indie rock. Dynamic, their songs invite the listener to experience tender intimacy and swell with ecstatic fervor in the span of a breath. 

Currently based in Asheville NC, Hoo:Lumes features Sophia Darby, Drew Sencabaugh and Collin Demos. 

The band is influenced by visual art, religious ritual and the challenges of being a human being just as much as the music and songwriting of wise greats like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell and contemporary creatives like Big Thief, Fleet Foxes, and Laura Marling. Hoo:Lumes has been crafting an extensive repertoire of original music since 2013.
