Deep House 2020 Part 2

Akbal Music, a label that started in the Riviera Maya launched in 2006 in Mexico and by now travelled around the globe and connected with amazing artists and musicians is celebraring this year it´s 15 years milestone and we are hyper happy for this achievement releasing a massive compilation divided in 3 parts perfect to keep the momentum of this historic celebration.

The first part of the album welcomes Serkan Eles with a mid tempo groover perfect to open things up driving the direction for then to follow up with Taleman that delivers a more hypnotic track with mysterious synths and trippy chords perfect to start a set.

Following up the EP Gadi Mitrani from Turkey has nice number filled with emotion and meditative piano chords, uplifting sounds and a great vibe and energy.

Finally to close the release we have Cocho from Argentina spicing things up with a vocal house tune perfect for this open air raves and getting the girls into the dance floor.

Their first full voyage of the year, ‘Ark’ is a stately piece of techno noir theatre designed to wrestle the choppiest of dancefloor seas. A multi-layered narrative laced with crispy arpeggios and strange otherworldly talkbox textures, it’s an oceanic titan that ploughs through the heaviest of elements with grace and majesty.

‘Doppt’ takes us to the next waymark on the map. Gently rhythmic from the moment its first shakers kiss your ears, we’re soon satiated with tightly plucked percussive elements, subtle humanised textures and a sense of momentum that’s tightly coiled with suspense and drama in a way that only Super Flu know how.

Finally our feet touch terra firma with the mysterious afro house maverick Hyenah as he provides an earthy remix stampede. Flexing between African rhythms, powerful 4/4s and a tantalising breakdown salvo, it’s yet another sterling revision from the masked beast… And another exceptional Monaberry trip from the one and only Super Flu. LA based DJ and producer Sam Jaspersohn debuts on Monog with a top-notch remix on Reborn. Sam was exposed to electronic music when he was 15 and he began to mix with vinyl since then. His career soon blossomed with a coast-to-coast following. He has received praise for tracks like Islands which featured on Digweed’s Bedrock 18-Signals compilation in 2016. His works have also been championed by a host of other top artists and he has appeared on top labels around the world. On the remix Sam takes us down the rabbit hole with a wondrous display of musical composition made up of deep, dark and lush tones. A solid drum section sets up a smooth rhythm while mesmerizing pads and sub shaking basses go to work. Mary’s vocal rings true throughout adding a beautiful organic flavour. An excellent track that is not to be missed.

Hoomidaas Records is the record label of the DJ/artist/producer/multi-instrumentalist Armen Miran along with his partner Christina Acobiance. The word Hoomidaas is a stylized acronym for the phrase “who made us”, paying homage to how past narratives shape the present moment. Armen states, "I would not be who I am if it wasn’t for my past." This shows that he holds a deep respect for experiential knowledge above all else and intends to capture that through this label venture. Furthermore, when isolated as “hoom” in Armenian it means “raw” and when artists are invited to be a part of Hoomidaas releases Armen asks them to imagine what the raw part of the sun (the other side of the sun that we cant see) would look like. He loves to challenge their perspectives and hear what experiential wisdom emanates from his fellow creators. 
 
The music, artists, and artwork/design are a huge priority for Armen. His mission is to hand-craft every aspect of Hoomidaas adding to its memorable intrigue via his experiences travelling and playing shows. He tells us that, "a few years ago I played a 12 hour set surrounded by the most beautiful artwork all over the walls of the space. That space is called Rambalkoshe. Since then we have been collaborating with Rambalkoshe and they’re who made our vision and art design come to life for many of the illustrations associated with the label." The synchronistic nature of the partnerships he embarks on are a strong indicator that intuition combined with drive can take you somewhere truly magical. 
 
Currently the label works with a handful of artists. They have each of their artists release a mix on their mix series called “Midaas” which comes out every two months. Additionally the label releases bi-annual compilations, one in the summer called “Hoom Side of the Sun” and one for the winter called “Hoom Side of the Moon”.
