Release thirty-six welcomes young Argentinian producer Polo to the Manjumasi fold with an absolute modern progressive ripper, Nostalgia del Presente. Driven by a hypnotic riff of massive stacked synth chords, this tune evokes the optimism and euphoric expansiveness of turn-of-the-millenium progressive house, while at the same time featuring a modern melancholic edge that places this track firmly in dance music’s current moment.

Armadillo opens the spring season by presenting two fresh collaborations from Yoav Shuella and Chicola. Based in Israel, Chicola and Yoav Shuella is a unique collaborative project between father and son.

Comprised of two distinctive and equally compelling creations, it is the deep, nourishing sounds of' the title selection ‘Candyman' which sets the tone for the EP. Instantly seductive, Yoav and Chicola flex their free-thinking muscles with evolving, emotional and hypnotizing structures, allowing the listener to relish in its musically-rich, well-textured coloured beauty. A strong sense of flow builds anticipation towards an array of fluttery phrasing, while a backbone of perfectly contoured beats and meticulously manicured percussion drives the narrative forward to a heartfelt finale, one where Yoav’s melodic lead seals the journey’s poignant appeal. 

Beneath the hopeful qualities of ‘Candyman’ lies the equally impressive and undeniably breathtaking ‘Bekushta’. Pitched somewhere comfortably between dreamy reverie and symphonic bliss, Yoav and Chicola’s relentless curiosity for rhythmic and musical experimentation basks in retro-radiance here. Evoking a utopian style ecstasy, it's darker underbelly serves as the anchor for Yoav’s notes to ring out in timeless suspension, progressing with a sense of intricacy and naturality that one would expect from the upper echelons of electronic music, and in turn leaving us all wondering what might come next from this formidable father and son duo.

Premiere: Yoav Shuella & Chicola - Candyman [Armadillo Records]

NYC-based producer and DJ Lauren Ritter (All Day I Dream, ReSolute, Rift Vision) returns to her roots with “Antigone // Sarus”, a new EP featuring two emotive, nostalgic, and melodic original compositions, “Antigone” and “Sarus,” that are sure to please fans of her All Day Dream 2015 debut Lark EP and her recent Rift Vision output alike. “Antigone” is an ever-evolving, bubbling, and driving number that showcases her classical music training and sensibilities, while “Sarus” is an airy, serene, glittering, and uplifting complimentary composition. Lauren invites friends Powel (DE – All Day I Dream) and Zone+ (BH – All Day I Dream / Satya / Mixcult) to provide their takes on both tracks, who each weave in dynamic grooves and vocal elements in their signature styles to underscore Ritter’s melodic motifs.

Lauren Ritter unveiled her imprint Rift Vision in 2020 during lockdown and has since released three emotive EPs encompassing her own solo compositions, collaborative works with Oakland-based poet Tenesha The Wordsmith (On The Corner), and remixes by lauded talent such as Octo Octa, Lawrence, Jenifa Mayanja, and Rrao. Stay-at-home DJ no more, Ritter has been back DJing in full force, with appearances incl the Zamna festival NYC, Do Not Sit Miami, Shameless Seattle, Public Records NYC. 2024 kicked off with a long-awaited return to Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream label, with Ritter being featured in their winter compilation. This year will include more releases from Lauren, including another EP entitled Blue Nine on Rift Vision in November.

Hoomidaas Records is the record label of the DJ/artist/producer/multi-instrumentalist Armen Miran along with his partner Christina Acobiance. The word Hoomidaas is a stylized acronym for the phrase “who made us”, paying homage to how past narratives shape the present moment. Armen states, "I would not be who I am if it wasn’t for my past." This shows that he holds a deep respect for experiential knowledge above all else and intends to capture that through this label venture. Furthermore, when isolated as “hoom” in Armenian it means “raw” and when artists are invited to be a part of Hoomidaas releases Armen asks them to imagine what the raw part of the sun (the other side of the sun that we cant see) would look like. He loves to challenge their perspectives and hear what experiential wisdom emanates from his fellow creators. 
 
The music, artists, and artwork/design are a huge priority for Armen. His mission is to hand-craft every aspect of Hoomidaas adding to its memorable intrigue via his experiences travelling and playing shows. He tells us that, "a few years ago I played a 12 hour set surrounded by the most beautiful artwork all over the walls of the space. That space is called Rambalkoshe. Since then we have been collaborating with Rambalkoshe and they’re who made our vision and art design come to life for many of the illustrations associated with the label." The synchronistic nature of the partnerships he embarks on are a strong indicator that intuition combined with drive can take you somewhere truly magical. 
 
Currently the label works with a handful of artists. They have each of their artists release a mix on their mix series called “Midaas” which comes out every two months. Additionally the label releases bi-annual compilations, one in the summer called “Hoom Side of the Sun” and one for the winter called “Hoom Side of the Moon”.
