Hoopsville Selection Sunday 2023

The annual NCAA Convention is this week and it is one of the most important gatherings of Association membership in the modern history of the NCAA. While a lot of eyes will be on Division I, all three Divisions must vote on a new NCAA Constitution. Division III has played an important role in crafting the new constitution as those in the division try and position DIII for the future.

And while the new NCAA Constitution will garner much of the attention this week in Indianapolis, it isn't the only piece of business that Division III needs to consider. There are a number of pieces of legislation DIII presidents, commissioners, and athletics directors will debate and likely vote on as well. Some of those items could have huge impacts on Division III including the sport of basketball.

In this special edition of Hoopsville, Dave McHugh gathers three ADs and a commissioner to have a round table discussion, and get insight, on the Constitution, DIII's role, and the legislation that will be considered. Plus, we react to what is ahead for DIII and the impact some of the legislation could have on DIII and it's student-athletes.

It was an incredible weekend of basketball in Division III. Semifinals and one championship game lived up to expectations. And there is still one more title to be crowned.

On the men's side of the Division III world, the weekend in Fort Wayne was terrific. Three great games, comebacks a plenty, drama, and one of the more incredible final minute (if not ten minutes) in the history of Division III title games. It was the perfect finish to an incredible season.

On the women's side, the semifinals did not disappoint. Comebacks as well, drama and strategy changes, and it leads to the first-ever #1 v #2 battle for the national title with both teams undefeated.

In the matter of what seemed like the blink of an eye, we have gone from 64-team tournaments to just 16 teams remaining in both the Men's and Women's NCAA Tournaments.

On Monday's Hoopsville, we chat talk to programs who are still dancing. Some may have surprised and others are living up to expectations. However, the pressure continues to ramp up and the difference between the dream continuing or waking up, is razor thin. The Sectional Weekend of games is upon us. On the eve of the Sweet 16 round, we talk to programs looking to keep their goals of a national championship in place.

On Thursday's Hoopsville, we chat with a number of teams on the road this weekend. Most of the teams will still be traveling when we hit the air, so we will touch base either on the bus or just after arrival with some. We find out from all how they are preparing for some challenging games just with hopes to be in the Elite Eight.

We have our champions! Congratulations to Trine and NYU on their national championships.

On Monday's Season Finale of Hoopsville, we chat with the two champion programs. Meg Barber and Megan Bauman of NYU along with Brooks Miller and Cortez Garland of Trine react to what they accomplished not only this past weekend, but in the national tournaments, and especially their entire seasons.

We will also talk to the two Jostens Trophy winners - announced earlier on Monday. Tyler Dearman from Guilford and Aleah Grundahl from UW-Whitewater will talk about the honor along with what stood out about their Jostens Trophy resumes. The 2023-24 Division III Basketball season was exiting from start to finish - even if some parts turned out as expected.

On the first off-season Hoopsville Podcast, Pat Coleman, Gordon Mann, and Ryan Scott take time to look back on the season with Dave McHugh. Each have a favorite moment, surprise, and something they will remember about the season that was. Plus, what will each be looking to ahead of the next season.
