You’ve heard Italy’s most famous composers when they soundtrack unwatchable Roman slasher flicks with on their own uncompromised and underpaid terms? Well that blueprint just turned blood red with sub-shoestring, low-budget studio wizards gambling with rigamortis rock, disjointed disco and low-voltage electronics for seldom screened scenes of desi Draculas, lycanthropic lady killers and psyched-up swamp monsters. Ever wondered what the DJ would play in a 1981 luxury hotel that was built on an ancient Christian cemetery? No? Well it sounds like someone just got possessed by Jimmy Page and Nile Rogers at the same time. Help!

But séance fiction aside the factual history of the untravelled Bollywood horror phenomena is fully re-exhumed with this compendium in true faithful Finders Keepers style. Carefully documenting the drummy theme from the first-ever 1949 Indian ghost film this benchmark collection follows the sinister lineage as directors of bloody thrillers take chances on shuddering synopsis and haywire sonic special effects. Leading up to the inauguration of the notorious Ramsay Bros film company (whose sibling revelry in the 70s and 80s lead to the inclusion of flight-style puke bags in participating picture houses) this compilation pulls no punches and plunges the ‘B’ of Bombay into the heart of the b-movie and squirts a masala of bloody ketchup and red wine onto the sets of Bollywood’s glorious filmic musicals. Licensed exclusively from the independent Indian film music companies (revealing incidental tracks that they didn’t even know they owned) Bollywood Bloodbath is the result of avid stomach turning research via VHS tapes, chewed-up cassettes, and LPs, 12”s and 45s remastered from some of the only existing master tapes; presented on both CD and vinyl for both the hairy home listeners and daring DJs just in time for the witching season. WIth a keen ear for structure & rhythm and impressive technical skills, Coldfish performed an outstanding 2 hours live set at Alandala NYE in the picturesque landscape near lake Belis, Romania. His compositions created an atmosphere in which the best navigation tools were our senses. We wanted to share with you this special experience.

“I felt very honoured to be invited to Waha again after a two year break. I would like to say thanks to Tudor and Monica and the whole crew. I was so overwhelmed by the reaction of the audience, just fantastic. Thanks to everybody, who was there, danced and shared these moments. Thanks to Bucuresti Underground to give me the possibility to share it again with you I hope this one feeds your memory again with all the love and peace we all felt at Waha. 

As you can hear my performance has some quite controversial moments like in the beginning, a recording I did on a protest march in Berlin, a moment, when the situation was escalating nearly. I mean we should not take love and peace for granted or democracy or life at all. We sometimes have to fight for our ideals and values, for equal rights, for freedom, for tolerance, for others or for nature and definitely we have to fight against fascism, racism, oppression, exploitation and so on. This all is very important for me and this is also a part of my music. Waha 2019 was such a great experience for me. I received so much love and all you gave me so much motivation to continue what I do. Thanks you very much!

Following the release of his latest album, Oh !, Ezéchiel Pailhès hands his creations over to a cast of remixers for an EP that takes his experimental chanson into exciting, eclectic new realms. Building on his previous two albums, Oh ! found Pailhès further exploring the intersection between poetry and music, with his conservatoire-trained piano playing setting the mood and the song-writing verve of his many years in Nôze lingering in the background.

Parisian duo Archil & Leon are renowned for their innovative instrument designs and their productions. Here they bring their highly customised creative flair to “J’aimerais tant” with a subtle treatment that works glitchy processes into the romantic swoon of the original track in a tastefully inventive manner.

Sharing Pailhès’ accomplished approach to instrumentation, Oakland-based husband and wife duo The Saxophones gently unfurl a bed of bittersweet guitar, flute and sax underneath Pailhès’ downcast rendition of Victor Hugo’s words on “Oh ! Pourquoi te cacher ?”.

The one and only Chloé exercises her evocative twist on minimal wave as she orchestrates an array of synths to re-frame “Sans l’oublier”. The words of 19th Century poet Marceline Desbordes-Valmore, as sung by Pailhès, are embellished with a richly noirish composition that borders on the baroque.

Gautier Vizioz is a talented Parisian beatmaker who collaborates with a broad tapestry of local artists. His own interpretation of “Oh ! Pourquoi te cacher ?” glides between dream-pop reverie and deeply rooted funk – a fittingly luxurious backdrop to the song.

Brandt Brauer Frick take on “Wolf 359”, one of the album’s few instrumental tracks, and infuse Pailhès’ keys with their own organic timbres played with an electronic attitude. The lines blur between the motorik pulse of the core rhythm section, the skittering percussion played on top and the interplay of synthesised tones and raw piano.
