Matthew Hayes With Joel Trigg’s debut release, “Elegant Universe”, is on the dope local-selectors label Ken Oath Records. It is an autochthonous yoke of house, jazz and ambient beauty… Elegance.

Alien by origin, it’s an album that you could hang too, make love too or impress your sophista-friends as a backdrop to an introspective cuddle puddle…. the ending to an MDMA cap after a night out in Berlin comes to mind!

When I moved to the city and was first year uni at the victorian college of the arts, i remember people telling me about this amazing third year bassist from monash University, Matthew Hayes. I had to see it to believe it, no one plays bass like matthew hayes he is a standalone genius in the Melbourne improvisational music scene. A constant source of admiration, inspiration and someone I look up too.

We both affectionately share the same nickname “Hazy” or “Hayesy”. Matt because of his last name and me because of… well if you know me then know ;-)

Joel Trigg is an absolute legend ! One of the most kindest, gentlest and caring people that i’ve had the great pleasure of shared many times in performance and in beat-making/production. 

One of my fondest memories is the conception of “A Brother Scratch” beat tape. Which came about as an improvising hip-hop game.

It's with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to what has been an Australian music scene institution. 

Mellowdias Thump, run by local taste maker Guy Rosenby (Wax Museum) and beat maker Oskar Skomes (So.Crates) has paved the way and created opportunities for our music scene to thrive.

I remember the first time we played a dj set under "A Brother Scratch", back in the day. Geezy, Skomes and Dom took us (30/70 crew) under their wing and showed us how to run a party right!

This is some of those jazz and depp house vibes that i've been feeling. I made it on the road from melbourne to sydney for christmas, its drawing from local melbourne artists Zoe Fox and the Rocket Clocks + yound elder fo jazz award winner Joshua Kelly (30/70).

I love my community and am sad not to make it tonight but here's my contribution to the last mixtape, maybe someone can play it for me tonight.
