„ANHEDONIE“ ist kein "perfektes" Album für jeden. Es ist ein ehrliches.
Ich habe hier festgehalten, wie sich Depression wirklich anfühlt – nicht von außen betrachtet, sondern aus meinem Inneren heraus. Dieses Album erzählt den Weg durch Dunkelheit, Selbsthass, Alkohol, Schuld, Druck und die Suche nach einem Ausweg. Jede Spur ist ein Teil von mir, eine Karte aus einer Zeit, in der Gefühle verschwunden waren und Stille manchmal lauter klang als jeder Schrei.

Es geht um Menschen, die kämpfen – im Stillen, hinter einem Lächeln, hinter alltäglichen Rollen, die sie trotzdem weiter erfüllen. Es betrifft all jene, die sich schon einmal gefragt haben, warum sie nichts mehr fühlen… und die trotzdem weitermachen.
Ich will niemandem erklären, was Depression ist. Ich will zeigen, wie sie sich anfühlt.

Mit diesem Album sage ich:
Du bist nicht allein.
Du bist nicht kaputt.
Und ja – selbst aus der tiefsten Leere kann irgendwann wieder ein leiser Funke werden.

„ANHEDONIE“ bedeutet für mich nicht nur Verlust von Freude.
Es bedeutet, sich selbst wiederzufinden, obwohl man längst aufgegeben glaubte.
Es ist ein Weg durch Schatten – und ein Beweis dafür, dass Licht nicht laut sein muss, um echt zu sein.

01 Anhedonie

Ariel Pink sets a serene but complicated scene for the next chapter in his curious career with “Another Weekend,” the first solo material heard since the prog-pop opus pom pom. Contrary to the lyrics of “Another Weekend” (and fortunately for both fanatics and the newly initiated), Pink is neither too shy or humble to have brought his singular style of pop music beyond the bedroom for the befuddled masses over the past two decades, but returned to the formative, familiar setting to craft what will surely live as another shimmering moment in an unrivaled canon.  Encapsulating the lingering euphoria of a regrettable weekend over the edge, “Another Weekend” speaks in morose volumes while whispering sweetly, the dichotomy of Pink’s pathos once again on display. Backed with “Ode To The Goat (Thank You)”, “Another Weekend” will be shared as a 7” single and through conventional music serving mechanisms on Wednesday, June 7.

Features two tracks from 2 remarkable concerts at Melbourne Recital Centre in November 2011 and The Barbican Centre, London in January 2010 celebrating the legacy of one of England’s most revered singer/songwriters, Nick Drake.

Melbourne duo, Luluc lend a potent melancholia to Drake’s ‘Things Behind The Sun’ (from his third and final 1972 album ‘Pink Moon’) whilst exclusive to this 7”, the highly acclaimed Irish singer Lisa Hannigan presents an evocative rendition of ‘At The Chime Of A City Clock’ (from his second, ‘Bryter Layter,’ 1970).

‘Things Behind The Sun’ is taken from the forthcoming album, ‘Way To Blue : The Songs Of Nick Drake’ (released 15th April 2013).
Luluc’s forthcoming album was produced by Aaron Dessner of The National.

Nick Drake is an unlikely romantic hero. In the 1970s he was a minor English singer and songwriter who peddled a lyrical brand of introspection that earned him a small but devoted following and few record sales. Dogged by depression and embittered by his lack of success, he died of an overdose in 1974, virtually unknown and unnoticed. He left an amazing legacy - a handful of recordings of his sparsely beautiful songs across just three albums, less than two hours of music. But over the ensuing decades, the enduring potency of these songs has ensured Drake's reputation as one of the UK's truly great musical talents.
