On the flip of TSR003, we have the long awaited collaboration between Dylan & Kitech, with a featured vocal from Ms Robyn Chaos, "The Truth". A beautiful contradiction to the A side, "The Truth" starts with a sinister speech from Ms Chaos - inviting you to question not only the world around us, but our inner (and often fragile and tortured) psyche, before descending into a maelstrom of madness. Not for the faint hearted, this track is an onslaught of hard beats, nasty bass, abrasive edits with what almost sounds like the revving of an evil yet glitchy engine (a la Christine) thrown in for good measure!

The Sect - Orbiter/Tetromino [TSMDIGI010]

TSM marks the tenth digital release on the label and their first of 2016 with label owners The Sect delivering up two trademark tech rollers.  With a host of releases slated for the coming year, across a variety of labels, the duo take advantage of home ground here to showcase a slightly more accessible take on their signature sound.

Orbiter’s serene intro belies the darkness into which this quickly descends, as the smooth pads and analogue bleeps make way for an onslaught of menacing stabs and dissonant FX, atop a rugged, driving beat and relentless, low-end pressure.  More stripped-back and restrained than much of their recent output, this is certainly no less heavyweight an offering than we’ve come to expect from The Sect.  Indeed, this unstoppable tech-funk juggernaut has been precision-engineered to make the moodiest of heads nod and get even the toughest of dancefloors bubbling.

JK FLESH is the pseudonym employed by Justin K Broadrick for his work within heavy electronica/techno - informed by industrial, dub & power electronics. Justin initially used this pseudonym in Techno-Animal with co-conspirator Kevin Martin (The Bug). Justin began his career in Napalm Death recording and writing the music for Side A of the legendary album 'SCUM', he then went onto form Godflesh and eventually post shoe gaze outfit Jesu, all the while continuing with his first ever project from the early 80's the noise/ambient guise FINAL. JK Flesh has releases on Electric Deluxe, Downwards, Hospital Productions, Inner Surface and many more with many more to come.

Dark Essence, featuring ASL, is a more ambient amen track. ASL made his debut with Mute:8 recordings back in 2011 with another Smyla collab, We Mute:8. Dark Essence brings more of ASL's musical elements, culminating in a track that brings you on a journey from start to finish.

Over the past 12 months, Smyla's own sound has progressed more and more, with the quality of breaks, edits and structure showing through. This release is definitely one for those who appreciate the darker side of Drum & Bass.

Hostage aka Adar Friedberg is a drum and bass producer and DJ currently based in Brooklyn, USA. He spent his high school years playing bass and drums for all sorts of silly bands. His young adult life was spent playing bass for noise and shoegazing bands, but after getting tired of fighting with people in rehearsal rooms - he moved on to working with a computer. Solo. During the 90s he got hooked on the darker sound of Dom, Grooverider and Source Direct, and started producing dark and heavy drum and bass himself. Music being such a large part of his life, studying audio engineering and working in the field - as his day job, is only natural.
