Another single produced with synth wizard, Chris Otchy. This one was inspired by 90's Deep House and early-internet nostalgia. In the spirit of collaboration, we also have a music we've made with Fetz AV using screen recordings of Netscape and timelapses of nature.

The concept behind the track and the imagery is the duality between the time we spend on screens and the time we spend in nature. We also use a visual style which reminds us of a time from our childhoods, where we were free to choose one from the other. In today's world, adults have to regulate their time to spend hunched over keyboards and staring at our phones lest we get left behind in the increasingly virtual world.

Chroma Sea' s music is meant to serve as a call to get up and explore and go outside, to connect with something greater than the rat race of zeros and ones. Of course, we make electronic music so we are not without our reverence for digital media. We will just always choose the natural world. We hope to encourage others to do the same.

Petrichor is a track from our upcoming album 'Portals' co-created with Bay Area producer Chris Otchy. This track is one of our first experiments with a more up-tempo sound. We took a vaporwave-inspired instrumental with a thumping house beat and added layers of intense effect-drenched guitar atmospheres. These layers together create a track with movement and drive but also a foreboding and experimental energy. We were inspired by Aphex Twin's selected ambient works and Four Tet's 'Wingdings' releases among others. But, as always, we feel like we've created something unique that could have only been made by Chroma Sea.

Wednesday morning was something else. DJ Tennis curated a full day of back-to-back sets on the Robot Heart bus, calling it Tennis Doubles. The highlight was the sunrise set with Simon, aka Bonobo. It was Simon’s first Burn and the rest is history. 🎾🌞❤️

In DJ Tennis’ words, “Robot Heart is family. When they asked me to curate the Wednesday lineup, I knew I had to bring Simon for his first Burn. That sunrise was pure magic playing side by side with an artist I deeply admire, as the desert came alive, felt like it was always meant to be. After more than a decade here, the Burn still takes my breath away like no other place.”

Through adversity, we find strength. This year was not without its challenges but it was without a doubt the most wonderful opportunity for growth I have ever had the good fortune to experience. Life is a gift and the human connections we make every day are all that will matter in the end. 

This set for me is a celebration of life and newfound inspiration, I sincerely hope you find joy in listening to it. Thank you to all of the incredible artists who continue to inspire me every day. As Matthew Caws said "the weight is a gift". 

I hope this finds you all happy, healthy and loved.

iota is James Collector’s 2nd solo release under his real name. The seven tracks infuse dance and ambient music with acoustic instruments self-recorded in the Bay Area. Collector, also known as Swoop, the MC and co-founder of Host Bodies, splits his creative efforts between music and writing. Likewise, the listener finds themself balanced between the infinitesimal and the infinite—an iota of consciousness poised at the edge of the moment when little things spark immeasurable joy.
