We were quietly impressed by mystery man Paul DaSoul's debut EP, which dropped on Hot Gorilla earlier in 2024. This speedy sequel is predictably joyous and dancefloor ready too. Title track 'Brand New Love' sees him make merry with selected horn-heavy samples from a classic 1980s disco-funk workout, with the rising star reaching for the filters at key moments while also adding a touch of bottom-end weight and lashings of hands-in-the-air colour. Track two 'Keep Your Body Grooving' is also excellent, with DaSoul building an attractive, extra-percussive disco groove - all rolling beats, guitar licks and groovy bass - before introducing familiar strings and vocals. From that point onwards, you'll be hooked!

Surprisingly, 13 months have passed since the previously prolific Andy Buchan last released an EP of his own. This three-tracker on the label he co-founded, Hot Gorilla, is therefore well overdue. Buchan's trademark sample-rich disco/house fusion sound comes to the fore on excellent opener 'Stand Up', where borrowed disco diva vocals and warming electric piano chords ride a jazzy bassline and rolling disco breaks. 'Bingo Bango' is a forthright and funky disco-house roller rich in rubbery slap bass, echoing vocal snippets, Italo-disco electronics and layered percussion, while 'Disco Stroke' is a fine rearrangement of a heavy disco-funk slammer.

Hot-stepping into the disco jungle, Hot Gorilla Records blur the lines between disco, funk, house and reworked edits. And they come at you with one aim and one aim only - to make you go bananas on the dancefloor!

Founded by Andy Buchan and Conan The Selector in May 2020 as the pandemic hit, the duo brought some much-needed ‘good times’ to the disco scene. And when clubs did open up again, they were straight into action, touring the UK as DJ support for The Brand New Heavies including sold-out dates in Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham. 

Musically they strut the line between disco, funk and house, championing original music and heavily reworked edits. 

And they’ve had plenty of dance floor success including several Juno Download No.1s, multiple Traxsource Top 10s and four tracks in the Best of 2021 Beatport chart. 

The Hot Gorilla Records family currently includes founders Andy Buchan and Conan The Selector alongside guests like Fingerman, Chewy Rubs, Mannix, Monsieur Van Pratt, Akeem Raphael and a big troop of funky monkeys. 

And with an album on the way, a 2nd birthday to celebrate in May 2022 and gigs across the UK and beyond, Hot Gorilla Records will continue to bring the ‘Good Times’ as they make people go bananas on the dancefloor.
