The new instance of the Kaputt's Dance series delivers four dance tracks from every corner of the wide club spectrum, each with its driving force. 

The first track comes from Mystery Affair, who has teamed up with Leonor for Get Fckd, a hypnotic bassline, swinged spaced elements, and vocals which make this song a never-ending trance. For the second instalment, the mysterious duo from Miami called Legs Benedict delivers a mushroom indie anthem called “Pele Mele”, great for a mindfulness dance. Straight from Europe, the mastermind Franz Scala hands over an italo disco dreamy force for the comp the way only he can do it. Last but not least, Peters & Pujol's debut on the label enchants us by middle eastern elements and invites us to indulge in an expansive ritual which rounds this third volume up nicely for the dancefloor.

A sultry, proto-house number with lyrics reminiscent of early 80s boogie, and a rhythm section conjuring that golden 90s aesthetic.

This is the lead track from a small compilation of edits of tracks we discovered over the summer. 

When the recent conflict broke out between Israel & Gaza, we felt uncomfortable promoting some random edits we made from the safety of our bedrooms when so many people are suffering.

All proceeds from the sale of these edits will go to Save the Children Gaza and to Save the Children Ukraine, who are operating to help those most at need during these tough times.

It is Monday and that means that I'm presenting a brand new version of an Interbay track that was previously shared on Facebook (where I would end up posting 140 tracks, each with its own music video) from January 2023 to May 2024.    

I refer to this process as RRR:  Rethink, Remake, Remix.  But, sometimes, there's not all that much rethinking, remaking...and it might only need a few tweaks to lift the old track the standards and expectations that I have for tracks that I post here, on SoundCloud.  Maybe an instrumental needs a vocal element.  Maybe a track just needs a remaster.  

However, today's exclusive remix of what had been "Experiment 8" (or "Rubber Band Bounce") definitely needed more attention than that.  I think this may be the best example of a truly Rethought, Remade, Remix of a previous Interbay experiment.    

The arrangement is very different, the sound palette has changed (probably the most memorable element of the original Experiment 8 mix was the crisp bell/pluck lead sound...and one of the first things I did when getting under the hood was to change that sound!  It forced me to reconsider the strengths of the track and to rebuild it into something new.  

No more bouncing rubber bands, this track is now about someone wearing his sunglasses at night, someone who belongs to the city, someone who finds comfort in just getting in his car and going.  (Where?  It doesn't matter.  Sometimes, you just need to get out of where you are and where your head is at.)  

Though the influence of the 80s new wave is undeniable on this track (which features both a Linn Drum AND an 808, sometimes at the same time), I don't think it is a paint-by-numbers synthwave track.  It's got a herky-jerky, start-stop thing to it that breaks the constant rhythmic flow that I've noticed in most modern synthwave tracks.  

In other words, instead of synthwave...what I've made here is...more Interbay.  

For the vocal element, I wanted to try my hand at turning a spoken word vocal take and turning it, with plugins, into a sung vocal take.  (It should be possible with the tools I have available to me--but I've never actually done it before.)  

...and I didn't do it this time, either.  For one thing, I thought the vibe of the spoken word track worked well within the context of the track as it was.  And, for another thing, I ran smack dab into the learning curve...and I realized that I'd need to fiddle and fiddle...which would make it difficult to post this track today.  

As Lorne Michaels would say, "the show doesn't go on because it is ready...the show goes on because it is 11:30."  (Trust me, that IS a relevant quote...and IYKYK.)

Not a lot of known info on this release- Samba Coulibaly is the singer and this is the only known recording he sings on.  He's credited on three records, one of which he's credited as "coordinator" for NST Cophies "Fayalargeau" (good one Zouk LP- look it up).  The arranger on this track played drums on many french pop records in the 80s (Claude Salmieri) and it was released in France and Spain.  Nothing else was ever released with this project.  The Dub is incredibly scattered and while it's a fun listen it sometimes feels a little too out there.  I wanted to make a "mega-mix" of the different versions and this is what I came up with.  Some re-drum programming and some atmospherics were added to modernize it just a touch.  This was in my sets for the past year, my friend Aroop did a mix of this recently that may be more big club friendly as well.  I think both versions are appropriate for different scenarios, enjoy
