Renzi99 is no stranger to the HOTBOX family and what it stands for. With a passion for digging and a straightforward mentality, his selections will always find space for a different set of emotions. A pilgrim of record shops and the Discogs loophole will make you wonder what sorts of goodies are in his bag. Carefully balancing his sounds between genres, he likes to dip his toes into breaks and the progressive sounds of the 90’s, switching it up with influences from the UK. 

His first gig at Ezekiel made heads turn as he literally blew the roof of the venue. To kick off our HOT Series Renzi99 provides us with a mix of flirty, bouncing sounds deflecting into a puddle of deep prog with a mean UK twist.

Next up in the series we have Antwerp local Supreems. His productions have been circling the globe for a few years now, receiving support from some big players in the scene like Bicep, Four Tet, Ross From Friends and Solomun, just to name a few. His releases have allowed him to zig-zag across Europe and play in some of its finest clubs, with Berghain Panoramabar as cherry on the cake. To say that we are delighted to have him contribute to our series is an understatement. 

Contrary to his productions, Supreems’ DJ-sets are a bit more eclectic, heavily influenced by the UK-scene in all its beauty and complexity. The man weaves together different genres and emotions seamlessly, leaving you wanting more, even after the 2h30 mix he made for us. With his debut album on the horizon and his latest Being EP sounding beautiful as ever, he certainly is one to watch. Have a taste of what’s to come and tune in to our Hot Series with Supreems.

Closing out the year 2022 is not as exciting for everyone as it is for us. With our last Hot Series mix, we blast out of 2022 and fly into the next one even harder. Red spaceship pilot on duty is local selector Asian Sal (@asian_sal). After a shared experience at Transit Festival, we quickly knew she would fit right into our roster. Originally hailing from Kazakhstan, her sound juggles between different genres, depending on the vibe she’s in. Heavy basslines, broken beats, entrancing melodies, but most importantly, tracks that generate a lot of energy. Searching for tracks far and wide, she doesn’t neglect her Asian roots and seeks to incorporate them into her sound.

When asking her if she wanted to record a mix for us, she instantly knew the job at hand. This month’s mix is an hour-long trip, deploying the listener into a realm of radioactive rhythms and banging basslines. Old school meets new school as she delves into house and trance while never abandoning the progressive elements we love here at HOTBOX.

Ultrasonic sound waves coming from the Ghent perimeter have been intercepted by our Hotbox antennas. Ejecting into orbit for our first Hot Series of the year is none other than the master of the sesh, Session 4000. Traveling to the borders of wacky house and goa trance, Session’s influences are heavily embedded in his psyche. A recent release on Small Hours, a 4-track EP in the pipeline with Locked In and some serious productions with the Hotbox crew shows us there’s no stopping the sesh any time soon.

After having played together at Artistix in Ghent, Session pursued to recapture the night for his entry of our fourth Hot Series. Stomping his way through 55 minutes of murky basslines and uncompromising beats with a happy attitude, Mr 4000 showcases what he likes best. Keep an eye on your sensors, this will not be Session 4000’s last orbit around the Hotbox system.

His next gig is at his own event Naastelkaar on the 21st. A second edition of the event series which brings Rey Colino to Ghent. Don’t miss out.

Radio silence has been broken as our next recording has been intercepted. A familiar face for the Hotbox team, our fifth Hot Series is supplied by Momo (@petitmaurice). This Antwerp native is not only a close friend, he also exudes all facets of HOTBOX and stirs it into his own tasty stew. Devoted to punching drum patterns and bouncing basslines, Momo always manages to incorporate that strained sense of urgency in his sets. 

This entry has been coming for a long time so put on your helmet for this one. 18 tracks to wrap your head around for the following hour. Momo’s attitude is lodged into this mix, he doesn’t mess around. Crunching percussions and proggy sounds from start to finish, Momo takes you on a ride along in our next feature of the Hot Series.

Jackuzzi (@jack_vh) takes up the next spot in our Hot Series. This jack-of-all-trades has embodied a varied but consistent sound throughout the years, with most of his inspirations coming from digging in some of our local record shops. Next to being a part of the Ezekiel Soundsystem DJ collective, he is also the founder of the Ezekiel 25:17 party concept. Apart from his collective, Jackuzzi distinguishes himself with his solo act, favoring a trip to the more progressive and minimalistic sides of the musical spectrum. Feeling a mutual connection through sound, our next guest didn’t hesitate to take part in the next Hot Series. 

After our first Hotbox night at Onder Stroom, a more mellow side of the Hotbox is explored in our sixth installment of the series. It starts off slow and catches you by surprise, slowly descending into the deeper territories… Jackuzzi goes through different genres, showcasing his recent diggs and current favorites. One hour of carefully selected records from his wax collection. His next outing is at the Ezekiel All nighter on the 28th of April, but if you want to taste the goodies before that, check out our Hot Series with Jackuzzi.

Embarking on our next journey, none other than the frogman himself joins the Hot Series club. Covering new landscapes since changing up his style, Rozevelt (@rozevelt) made a 180°C turn while maintaining his bravado… and his towel. Born in Mechelen, Rozevelt really developed in Antwerp, making waves with the party concept Hot Buns and his new baby Ymi. If you know Rozevelt, you know this mix is going to be fun. 

For the next hour, indulge yourself into the haziness of this set. After a quick mindfuck for everyone at Horst Festival this year, Rozevelt used his inspiration from the event to mold his set with the right juices. What starts off kind of curious, makes way for dirty basslines that make you want to do the lizard dance. Want to see the guy? Spot him at Doel Festival this year. Just in time for the weekend comes our next guest and well trained Pilot. This time, Cisco FM (@ciscofm) takes over the controls to bring us the eighth chapter of our Hot Series. As a former intern at Crevette Records and a real music nerd, he never stops the eternal search for the 12 inches we are all so addicted to.

With the sun shining bright these days, he did not hesitate to take a trip to the big burning ball. Fueling the spacecraft by means of his record collection; he controls the Hotbox at superluminal speed, completing his orbit around the sun in 150 minutes while soundtracking the whole trip with a mixture of his favorite deep cuts, acidic and filthy synth lines and spacey sonifications.

With his new-found knowledge, a landing back on earth seems inevitable. Catch him flying all around Belgium this summer.

HOT SERIES 008 - Cisco FM

For an unknown reason, the Hotbox was absent from our radar systems for some time but we are relieved that it has given us new signs of life. To kick-off our Hot Series’ return, a rather vicious yet cheerful pilot will take the reins for our next foray into the Hotbox universe. Violently Happy (@djviolentlyhappy) is our next guest. Still shaping his sound, the Antwerp native found a connection to music through the flourishing queer community in the city. Drawing inspiration from artists like Eris Drew & Octo Octa, he always tries to evoke joyful emotions, while packing a serious punch in the process.

As the name suggests, prepare yourself for menacing beats with uplifting melodies. Steamy and sexy is what comes to mind when he thinks about Hotbox; and that’s exactly what you’re going to get. For over an hour, Violently Happy takes you on a high-energy trip leaving you with a big smile on your face. We can’t wait for what’s to come. Time to kick it up a notch. Transmissions from the Hotbox are coming in faster than usual. Our next Hot Series is delivered, pun intended, by DJ Delivery Guy. He describes his sound as electronically-driven, yet spacious enough to allow some breathing room. Recently, A deeper dive into the vinylverse has given him a more distinctive perspective on his own tastes and has enabled him to channel his own spirit more clearly in his sets. 

Our next guest takes control of our tenth Hot Series in a fitting manner, blasting through two hours of energy inducing choons serving as a portal to the weekend, even though it was recorded on a Sunday morning. Fueled by weeks filled with exhilaration, DJ Delivery Guy offers us a sample of his sonic concoction in our forthcoming Hot Series.

Festival season is wrapping up, which means clubbing season is approaching. As the Hotbox returns, it is accompanied by many travelers; not unlike our next guest in the Hot Series, @ava_eva. While she's currently drawn to the UK sounds exemplified by artists like Saiorse, her musical horizons remain wide open. Throughout her sets, she maintains a consistent aim of evoking that distinctive fusion of joyful nostalgia.

In our eleventh session of our Hot Series, prepare to embark on a cosmic odyssey, expertly piloted by our Brussels-based virtuoso. The next hour, the Brusselian promises bone breaking beats and sounds that will transport you to a sci-fi wonderland. Check out La Cabane in the coming months to see her for yourself.

Whippin’ some wax this time is none other than Mogus. You never know what you’re gonna get with our next guest. A DJ and curator representing Antwerp, where his passion for music and events has been a driving force since 2007. Often pondering over the analogy of music and art; he aims to break away from the monotonous uniformity often found in music. Lately he has immersed himself in new projects with two events in Ghent and Berlin on the horizon. 

For our next Hot Series sesh, Mogus ejects his favourite cuts through the stratosphere. Catching you with a breakbeat-inspired intro he then attacks with bloody acid lines delivering your daily dose of 303 madness. This 22-tracker flies by in about an hour, catching you with a range of different emotions and perspiration all reminiscent of our beloved 90's era. With an experimental approach and a penchant for darker, trippier vibes, Mogus's take on the twelfth Hot Series promises an intense sonic journey.

Our next guest has entered Hotbox’ orbit. Enter the enigmatic world of Catalina. Based in Brussels, born in Romania, bred in the UK, Catalina is a force to be reckoned with. As a resident at Bruzz and Kiosk Radio, she’s known for conjuring up mean breakbeats and filthy basslines on the regular. Catalina's sets lure listeners into the unknown, creating an air of mystery as she effortlessly guides her audience through a spectrum of sonic experiences. 

Gear up as her exclusive Hotbox Hot Series mix takes you on a bass-saturated journey with unexpected twists, breaking through a diverse range of subgenres, from UKG-inspired drums to Latin melodies and thundering subs. While this mix leans slightly darker, it provides only a fraction of the sorts of goodies you’ll find in her bag. With exciting plans on the horizon, including sharing the decks with the HOTBOX crew at Full Circle and her Danish debut in Copenhagen, Catalina’s enigmatic sound is poised to conquer new dancefloors.

Comms have picked up new broadcasts from the Hotbox mothership. First scans show signs of a fresh Hot Series mix courtesy of none other than Sips (@djsips. Surrounded by his close-knit group of friends, Sips gained trust in his own music taste and is not afraid to let his flow drift into playing whatever he feels like playing. 

Sips is not holding back for this one, cooking us up some expertly selected groovers one by one for the next hour or so embedding his happy-go-lucky attitude in his selection. A lovely mix that goes deeper and deeper, exploring bass driven melodies from start to finish. Get a taste of his goodies at the next Fini on December 1st b2b Hotbox co-honcho Aymeric.

Before warping into 2024, our celestial voyage takes a detour into the Kimurian realms. Our buddy Egal takes up the final spot in this year’s Hot Series. Originally inspired by the Techno scene, Egal took a u-turn, bewitched by the many nuances found in other genres. Next to being a passionate digger, Egal felt like doing more and started Kimura with his friend and our first ever guest on the series, Renzi99.

For our fifteenth edition of the series, Egal conjures up a mean vinyl only mix of his personal favorites from his collection. This mix spins, bounces, zigs & zags, feeding you with smoldering basslines and tight-knit percussions throughout. This is only a small portion of his potential however so you better catch a glimpse of him at the next Kimura… but for now, make ready for our final foray into the Hotbox universe this year.

In line with HOTBOX’ first foray into the vinylverse, none other than Mtty (@mttyyum) will be at the helm for our next Hot Series. Usually found Down Under, our guest has just recently returned from his pilgrimage to Europe, broadening his musical repertoire in the process. Mtty, a partisan of the playful and eccentric facets of house music, ingeniously translates his affinity into his own productions, particularly showcasing a cheeky approach to spaced-out UFO sounds which is exactly what caught the attention of the HOTBOX.

As we celebrate February 14th, a day synonymous with intimacy and affection, our sixteenth Hot Series mix is a crimson cascade of love and passion. Mtty guides us through a sultry journey spanning an hour and a half, seducing us with a bunch of banging 4x4’s and whipping out warm melodies and bouncy drums left, right, and center, leaving listeners immersed in a sonic realm where love and music intertwine. Our next bae to grace the series is none other than the Megababe herself, Kitsta (@kitsta_dj). With a love for harmonies, the London based dj, producer and labelhead spins all sounds that intersect with trance in any shape or form, from euphoric tech house groovers to darker, psychedelic rollers with influences from Roza Terenzi & D. Tiffany. But Kitsta's allure extends beyond the DJ booth, being the label head of Megababes and one of the founders of the Beatriarchy concept.

Prepare yourself for the 17th installment of the Hot Series, where Kitsta will guide you through 80 minutes of sonic seduction, traversing the lighter yet tantalizingly dirty facets of her collection while not abstaining from her usual euphoric style. Other than that, the London native is expecting two stellar releases on her Megababes label. See for yourself when Kitsta will be gracing the airwaves of Kiosk Radio in May, accompanied by her enigmatic partner in crime, n_o.

Have a little squiz at our next guest of the series. All the way from the dusty depths of the outback, @pistaccio finds itself on a good wicket by not only having participated in our inaugural release, but also joining the roster for our Hot Series. Originally from Eora, Pistaccio has carved a niche within the pulsating heart of the Naarm music community, showcasing his talents through his monthly contributions on Skylab Radio and his behind-the-scenes involvement with Colour Club and Lost Properties. A skilled DJ and producer, Oren's work blends spaciousness and energy, evoking a sense of familiarity while bringing something fresh.

For the next hour, Pistaccio charges like a wounded bull, showcasing his 90’s & 00s influences from artists like Jay Tripwire, Rob Paine and the Wiggle crew. Grab yourself a glass as the Eora native delivers a beautifully mixed cocktail of dubby, bouncing and playful tracks to get you going; shaken, not stirred. This mix is dedicated to Mach 1; a little doof on the fringes of Melbourne that unfortunately got cancelled due to the fiery wrath of a bushfire. Pistaccio will be crossing the pond over to Europe this summer to get a taste of the Euro experience, so make him feel at home, will ya?

As the first rays of sunshine are caressing the horizon, so too does the festival season approach. Amidst the anticipation, Nikita (@josue-cammaert ) emerges as the next purveyor of the series. This enthusiastic digger is known for his lingo in various genres influenced by his inclusion in the Brussels-based Sono Ventura family. Influenced by our beloved 90’s club scene era from Belgium’s clubs to the streets of Detroit, Nikita’s musical journey knows no bounds. Nowadays, he finds his inspiration in South American artists like Elias Sternin or Samuel Jabba, next to the usual bunch of grooves from electro house to trancey beats and breaky riddims. 

Warm yourself up for the next hour as the Brusselian tells you the enchanting story of how bloopy bleeps, naughty acid lines and sturdy drums live happily ever after. The main characters are his personal favorite new- and old school 90’s-inspired records. In Nikita’s hands, these elements converge, forming an entrancing mush of sound blending together in the form of our 19th Hot Series, expertly encapsulating the HOTBOX sound. Catch sight of him at Esperanzah Festival’s newest stage this year, next to a few of many open airs in Belgium this summer.

HOT SERIES 019 - Nikita

We’re celebrating something special today as the Hot Series marks its twentieth iteration courtesy of a duo we’ve had on our radar since the inception of the label. Going back to back in time with this one as @maitoooo & @bjeor take charge of the next one in the series, providing us with a recording of their set at La Cabane from a couple of months ago. Both contribute to the Belgian nightlife scene in a multitude of ways, which led them to cross paths at @horstartsandmusicfestival where the pair quickly saw eye to eye and formed a connection on & off the decks.

As you would expect from these two, their shared love for house music fully comes to fruition in this masterfully curated mix with each contributing his own intricate layers to create a beautiful tale of emotion and sound. A warm up set is always tricky to do well, but Max & Toon demonstrate their mastery and prove why they love to play warm up sets, especially the long ones. Over a floaty three and a half hour journey, the duo ascend to 125bpm, maintaining a deep and steady orbit that perfectly set the tone for the night’s stellar festivities. Both can be seen traversing Belgium’s festival landscape this summer. Among other party spots, you’ll catch Maito at @club_affair and Bjeor at this year’s @paradise-city-festival . See you there ;)

HOT SERIES 020 - Bjeor & Maito | Live @ La Cabane

Oh our next guest should come to no surprise. Gracing most of the local festivals this summer, none other than R.omy (@romy-van-rompuy ) is joining the Hot Series roster. After honing her craft in Bangkok, Romy has returned to Antwerp, bringing a unique blend of influences and a rich sound palette to the decks. While still hosting a monthly radioshow on Bangkok Community Radio, R.omy's profound appreciation for deep and emotive sounds shines through. Drawing inspiration from the local Belgian scene to the far reaches of Eastern Europe, she describes her sound as a fusion of deep basslines and electro breaks. A fixture in the Antwerp nightlife scene, it was only natural for Romy to cross paths with the HOTBOX crew. 

With this mix, she stays true to their sound while making it more dancefloor-ready, delivering a higher tempo yet seamlessly transitioning between her favorite genres. The mix starts with a deeper, spacey minimal sound and transitions into more bombastic and emotional electro tracks, all while maintaining the essence of her musical identity. When we asked her to feature on the series, one track instantly came to mind for her; can you guess which one it is?

HOTBOX DJ's @ Transit Festival 2023

Stepping up for our next session of the series is the co-captain of the LLOSS collective, Chipo Chipo (@chipochipo ). Early musical affections brought him into the organic grooves of Soul, Funk and New Wave. Now, the Antwerp based dj likes to dig deep into the world of Belgian 90’s Techno, Italian rarities, and Eurodance records, always in pursuit of the best selections and unknown bangers. With a focus on building energy and creating moments of euphoria, Chipo Chipo’s sets are a blend of in-your-face percussions, rhythmic house pumpers, and standout peaktime trance records. 

Brace yourselves as our 22nd Hot Series goes back into 6th gear after some slower sessions. Get ready as the LLOSS honcho takes you on a journey from the ambient realms to a 15-minute breakbeat transition featuring his current favorites and finally evolving into peak time madness. The mix embodies what HOTBOX represents to Chipo Chipo, delivering spacy, edgy, and bleepy sounds without compromising on tempo. This weekend, LLOSS Festival will invite over 27 artists to perform at the festival, boasting an exciting line up and scenography for this year’s edition. Catch him playing as well as yours truly. HOT SERIES 022 - Chipo Chipo

You can call our next guest daddy cuz Zephyr (@deejayzephyr ) is taking control for our next session in the series. With over a decade of spinning vinyl, the Antwerp local is a well known figure in the scene, promoting and managing at Ampere and organizing his Mystic Rhythmz adventures. In a short amount of time, Zephyr has carved out a reputation for playing out records with character, keeping his audience beating and interested. His French roots are a noticeable influence in his sound, complemented by his passion for the deep rhythms of the '90s and 2000s. If it's bouncy, punchy and sounds like it’s from an old 90's tape, you can bet Zephyr will spin it.

Taking over for Liquid Earth in Ampere, Zephyr kept it dynamic and engaging, slamming you with rolling house grooves from start to finish and whipping up banger after banger with a fitting ending track that surely closed the night on a high note. He expertly pulls you in and out at the right moment with a common thread of deep grooves, swung-out percs, and quirky sounds. “I love it when a just a few words with a delay effect can become a unique instrument as the core element of the track. You'll hear plenty of it in this mix.”

HOT SERIES 023 - Zephyr

Introducing: Malo Z & Emma Caers. Both are up and coming selectors coming straight out the local Belgian scene. Originally from Leuven, but kicking it about in Brussels and its surroundings, both have been good friends for a while now, but only managed to play together for the first time courtesy of our 23rd Hot Series. Meeting the Hotbox crew at Klub Dramatik last year, Malo Z has been on our list for some time now and we’re happy he brought along Emma with him to strengthen the grooves. 

The only thing they agreed upon before starting the recording, was to record a loooong mix. Just like the HOTBOX, the duo shares a deep affection for downtempo music and house rhythms that make you move your feet; they opted to do exactly that. A lovely mash of blissful sounds, cute melodies, enchanting rhythms and ethereal vocals fill the mix from start to finish. “It’s a little bit folk-y, feminine, tribal, with a slower start working up to some dance rhythms.” Catch Emma Caers this summer at the coolest festival in town: Doel Festival, where she’ll open the famous Garage Box.

Summer may be drawing to a close, but rest assured—our Hot Series will keep you boiling for the rest of the year. Up next, we’re excited to have DJ Paco taking the helm for our 25th podcast. This Flemish bringer of breeziness exudes energy and passion. As a resident DJ at LOVEGROOVE, Paco is fluent in the language of the dancefloor and knows exactly how to make the crowd move. His music speaks volumes—pumping tracks full of emotion and melody that send the crowd into a frenzy, perfectly blended with deeper, more consistent grooves, all while keeping the energy at a top-notch level.

Mesdames et messieurs, la Hot Series est de retour. None other than our favorite baker Rick Baguette (@rickbaguette ) is next in our never-ending journey into the Hotbox universe. Co-founder of the infamous Hot Buns collective, Rick has been grooving his way across the country, even making the leap to our Dutch neighbors and earning well-deserved praise abroad. Rick lets the music speak for itself, influenced by the likes of Christian AB, Noizar, and Sugar Free. Like any great baker, delivering the freshest goodies around is what he does best.

For his Hotbox mix, Rick strips away the obvious and digs deeper into his sonic palette. The mix begins slowly, simmering with subtle layers, before building into a cascade of zingers. No stranger to keeping things raw and authentic, you already know this mix is a wild ride from start to finish, packed with unexpected twists and turns.
