Almost exactly five years to the day since her critically acclaimed Techno Monkey EP first did its damage across international airwaves and packed, sweaty warehouses, Berlin-based artiste and Kuukou Records label boss Simina Grigoriu now looks to breathe fresh life into one of the most iconic records in her expansive career discography, as she announces a Techno Monkey remix project of colossal proportions. 

Over the course of this year, Simina and the Kuukou Records team will be releasing a total of nine huge remixes of the 2016 original, brought to you by a carefully curated selection of the most exciting names in electronic names, new and old. Due for worldwide release on Friday, July 9, the campaign launches with the first star-studded EP, which comes complete with an eclectic trio of contributions from electronic music royalty, Paul Kalkbrenner, American techno maven Camea and Kuukou Records favourite, Hito. Introducing Techno Monkey Remixed Vol. 1…

Inaugurating the three-pronged package is the man himself, Paul Kalkbrenner. A true legend of electronic music and the mastermind behind timeless global chart-topping hits including Sky and Sand, No Goodbye and Parachute, the internationally lauded Berlin Calling icon commences proceedings in true Kalkbrenner style, as he takes us on a hypnotic seven-minute journey across an up-tempo landscape of driving rhythms, expertly layered textures, and ethereal undulating timbres.

Next up to the plate is US-born, Berlin-based techno sensation, Camea. With an array of diverse releases clocked on the likes of Bpitch, M_nus, Plus 8, Get Physical, Clink Recordings and her very own Neverwhere over the course of her esteemed fifteen-year career, the über-talented artists finally makes her long-awaited debut on Kuukou, as she re-paints Grigoriu’s original with her own frenzied palate of dystopian, sci-fi electronica.

Last but by no means least, and making her eagerly-anticipated return to Kuukou Records, is Japanese icon and Model1 ambassador, Hito. Still riding high off the back of her massive label debut in October 2020 with Kobe, the prolific producer and Watergate regular rounds off Volume 1 in immaculate style as she delivers a slick amalgamation of punchy percussion, growling bass and trippy samples for her playful Hito’s Monkey In The Jungle Remix.

Speaking about the project, Simina commented:
“I love that this project has come to fruition—it’s been a long time in the making. My original Techno Monkey track was part of the first EP I released on Kuukou six years ago. I was a bit wary of releasing nine different remixes of my original but I was also excited to see what everyone would do with it. Each artist has brought his or her personal flavour to the project and I’m super excited to share this with you guys!”

This journey gets straight to the point with the title alone. Just as approaching prey covered by the darkness of night, the snarling synth slowly lurks closer while the loop of hypnotic tones and pulsing drums keep the mark focused and unwitting of its true motive. When it finally shows its teeth, freedom is long gone. Panther has sunk in and forgets any intention of surrender. Wave the white flag. It's an exquisite feeling to be eaten alive.

Back at our mammoth Stay True Scotland broadcast earlier this month, one track came real close to bringing The Caves' roof down during Nina Kraviz's powerhouse headline set. "I Wanna Go Bang" very nearly executed its titular statement – well, if the song was more about wrecking balls and less about...oh, never mind.

The vocals that stalk the track, so wholly devoid of humanity, rub up against razor-sharp claps and serious bounce in the subs. It's weighty warehouse techno of the highest order, set to devastate dark basements and big tents alike throughout the year. Simply put: Icelandic producer Bjarki has delivered a bomb.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

For the 15 years of Terminal M festivities it was a sure step to also get back into our catalogue and obviously listened to the older releases again. And it quickly came to our mind that Monika Kruses @ Voodooamt's classic 'Passengers' album from 2003 still is a true gem. So we reworked and remastered the whole album and asked close friends to select a track they wanted to remix. Oliver Huntemann, Alberto Ruiz and Skober immediately agreed and surprised us with their great new interpretations.

Since 1996, Drumcode has grown to become an institution in the global techno scene, encompassing a radio program, an event series, and a home for the musical vision of its artists and founder, Adam Beyer. “15 Years of Drumcode” celebrates this landmark by focusing on the present.

There are no throwbacks, rehashings, or remixes of the label‘s back catalogue. Instead, the 28-track compilation showcases the newest work of Drumcode‘s current roster alongside fresh material from some well known names from the labels history and special contributions from some of techno's undisputed heavyweights.

Hotflush is a record label launched by Paul Rose aka Scuba in 2003. Its early period was spent as a central part of London's Bass Music scene which exploded in the mid 2000s, although the label has always been difficult to pigeonhole musically and recent output has focused on Techno and House.
