A little over a year ago we welcomed Semantica Records owner, Svreca to London for his On the 5th Day debut and as expected, were blown away and inspired to the max, not only by his musical prowess, addictive zeal and skills behind the decks, but by his unshakeable values and rock solid vision.

Our belief in what we’re striving for with On the 5th Day was excelled to new levels thanks to our encounter and after just a few short hours hanging out in the studio, it hit us that that moment was potentially the beginning of a very exciting twist in our story.

We weren’t wrong!

Not long after that, Svreca agreed to be our resident for 2018, pledging to work with us to create three separate line-ups throughout the year, at which he would also play. So far, we’ve danced our way through an incredible night with Luigi Tozzi and Psyk back in January - absolutely one for the books - and we’ve locked July 21st in London’s techno diary with ASC and Hydrangea. Svreca’s final appearance of the year will take place in November and the night is guaranteed to be another humdinger!

The biggest, most badass love goes out to Sam KDC who has gifted us with an absolutely astounding podcast (#064) ahead of his On the 5th Day appearance at Corsica Studios on September 1st. If you’ve been an avid collector of game-changing, quality techno and experimental over recent years then you’ll most likely know the score. Sam KDC (aka Samuel Wood) is a devoted boundary pusher within the electronic music field, producing since 2002 and making his own solid and hugely significant mark during the years that followed. Working closely alongside fellow musician ASC (James Clements), Sam KDC played a critical role in shaping the revolutionary vision of ASC’s Auxiliary label, contributing a multitude of releases along the way, helping to ensure it became the go to for deep, “outside the box” techno that it is today. He and ASC are also the pioneers behind the unique style that inspired Grey Area, a label collaboration between Samurai and Auxiliary, uniting 128 bpm with 170/85 bpm in a seamless, polyrhythmic, big impact manner.

As demonstrated herewith, Sam KDC’s mind-bending approach to techno and experimental, and the characteristics and complexities of his style - with its multiple BPMs and dynamic, shifting hearty pulse - culminate in an almighty rhythmic hurricane fuelled by a strong emotional power, sweeping you through mountainous peaks and caverns before releasing you in a breathless heap on the floor! His meticulously controlled sets, vibrating with depth and tension make it impossible to turn your attention elsewhere… and the good news is there’s plenty more where this came from when Sam is united with Corsica’s better than ever almighty sound system on September 1st. It's podcast time again, friends. This time we bring you something a little different to complement the On the 5th Day podcast palette, contributing its own warm, vibrant colours to the stream in a way that can only attributable to one very special artist. Alan Backdrop (aka Alessio Meneghello),

Spearheading the way in musical journeys with a deep and atmospheric feel, here is a perfect example of the evocative stories Backdrop is known for. It is also, for us at least, a spirited celebration of a musically rich summer and an increasing number of intimate techno, experimental and ambient festivals around the world uniting music and nature in the most perfect of ways (Parallel, Tundu Open Air, Harmony Open Air, Modem et al), most of which he has performed at himself. No surprise there.

Like so much music we're finding ourselves drawn to these days, his is a sound which feels like it's in tune with the vibrations of the universe, the deep, richly textured grooves, mellow underlying baselines and glistening percussions pulsating with life's energy and the magic of connectivity. With releases on the likes of Semantica, Hypnus Records, Mental Modern and Prologue, to name but a few, Backdrop is a dedicated studio dweller, forming strong bonds with multiple synthesisers over the years in order to develop the Alan Backdrop sound his loyal followers have grown to love.

Six years ago, Russian-born Marina Rubinstein was a raver living in Tel Aviv with dreams of becoming a DJ. After saving up enough money, she bought a one-way ticket to Berlin, where she quickly worked her way up from playing small rooms to 20 people to playing the world's biggest techno club, Berghain.

Dr. Rubinstein's story is a familiar one, but her love of '90s acid techno and life-affirming rave tunes helped the fledgling DJ to stand out in a city then dominated by darker, more hypnotic sounds. Today, she's a globally respected selector with a joyous, life-affirming style.

This week's FACT mix is a snapshot of Dr. Rubinstein's dreamier side, packed with hazy breakbeat, electro and acid; it rarely climbs above 115BPM, with tracks from Lake Haze, Holger Flinsch and Legowelt amongst the tracks that will have spotters taking notes. It's one for the 7am crew.
