Mix 009 is dedicated to a friend I’ve known for years but only got closer during the pandemic. Nelly is a special one. Most can’t handle her raw, unfiltered and authentic self.. but that’s because she’ll hold a mirror in front of you highlighting and confronting what needs to be confronted. Her music taste is someone’s I respect, and her comments towards “bad” music are some of my favorite. 

“Ok, can you play some good music now.” - to whoever is playing/DJing. 

“What are you guys… on a journey to nowhere?” - addressing three friends on the couch chillin lol 

“I’M BORED” - probably the most used quote of hers 

Nelly is important to me cuz she’s one of the ones who confronts me when I play. I know if I have Nelly moving, then I’m playing well. She has that power, and her years of working within the industry has formed her musical taste and ear to be top notch. She’s seen and worked with a lot of DJ’s, and understands the most important job of the DJ is to read the room and the vibe - then play according to that. Whether she knows it or not, Nelly inspires me and makes me grow as a DJ. Aside from all the technical things, like mixing well and having a good track selection, there’s so many little things that need to click in order to sound great. There’s levels to this shit, and I feel as if she helps me level up ⚡️ 

I was honored to play at her birthday party this last Saturday, and I recorded this mix the day after. Quite honestly, the mixing and transition work in this mix is some of the best I’ve recorded. Making it totally Nelly-worthy. 

Happy birthday Nelly! We love you for being you, and we all recognize and acknowledge your dedication to being “nicer” and more vulnerable lol… but don’t ever change how authentic and real you are! Hope y’all enjoy this 2 and a half hour ride 🛸
