Having been one of his biggest festival tunes in the summer of 2014, the Luxxury mix of Greg Wilson’s 'Summer Came My Way' - which originally surfaced on last year’s 'Schooled In The Classics' 12” - was put on the back burner throughout the winter in readiness for a full 2015 release. Juxtaposed by Walter Ego’s equally sublime take on the track, the release marks the first of eight records to be issued over the summer months.

Sometimes composition is a long and arduous process, other times a song arrives fully formed. The latter was the case for Greg when he imagined 'Summer Came My Way' as a vehicle for hitherto unknown vocal forces of nature, The Reynolds - twins Katherine and the song’s lead singer Carmel - who, by beautiful serendipity happened to live within a mile of Greg’s Merseyside home.

Bursting out of LA with a lavish twelve-part re-edit series last year, Luxxury’s brand of hazy, slo-mo reworks - a West Coast Balaeric fusion - has catapulted him onto the world stage. Opening his mammoth eight- hour Berghain set in 2013 with Luxxury’s 'Hotel California' rework, Greg helped bring his Los Angeles vibes to wider attention, bolstered by his subsequent support of other reworks; 'Night Fever' and 'Riders On The Storm'.

A victim of his own success, 'Hotel California' gained Luxxury a little too much notoriety and, after a Wall Street Journal interview began circulating, Warner came down on him like a ton of bricks on finding out he’d used The Eagles’ multitracks. All was resolved however and he’s currently recording his forthcoming album, with great things expected for 2015 and beyond. The Luxxury approach perfectly fitted Greg’s vision of the song and the result is a glorious nine-minute epic, just in time for the summer.

With releases on the legendary Ninja Tune, San Francisco’s murky Symbols and Kerri Chandler’s jackin’ MadTech, Walter Ego’s appeal stretches across the board; from forward thinking house to rough and ready grime. Having got to know the Sheffield musician during recent years, Greg was impressed by what he heard, especially an as yet unreleased project he was working on in collaboration with London singer, Obenewa. Inviting him to remix the track, Walter returned an ethereal yet mechanical take on 'Summer Came My Way', his delicately decaying synths and cold hydraulic rhythm giving the track a brooding quality and placing The Reynolds in an entirely new context.

When disco was declared dead in 1979, dance music was forced back underground, leading to one of its most creative periods. Moving into the eighties, post-disco producers were allowed to explore the new technologies emerging at the time with little corrupting influence from the mainstream and New York became a hub for the new electro-funk and boogie sounds.

Having built his reputation playing the latest US dance imports at Wigan Pier and Manchester’s Legend and Haçienda in the early eighties, DJ Greg Wilson is indebted to that sound and has paid homage to many of the cult hits of the era through his reworks and edits.

Greg had originally intended to edit Chemise’s 1982 underground cut 'She Can’t Love You', cherry picking the best parts from the original and dub mix. However this proved unsatisfactory, so instead he decided to take on a full cover, approaching Tyrrell; the guy who did such a brilliant job of recreating Massive Attack and the Rolling Stones - mashed up with Amerie - on his 2005 P.T.A release, which Greg then reconstructed into 'Two Sides of Sympathy', one of his most enduring edits.

Having recorded the backing track back in 2011, he needed to find the right vocalist. His first thoughts were to approach Adeline Michele, the singer from Brooklyn disco outfit, Escort. This never materialised and, apart from a fleeting fancy for recording it with NYC based Lady Miss Kier, formerly of Deee-Lite, the track was put in mothballs for a couple of years, until he dug it out just a few months ago to play it to The Reynolds, who’d sang so superbly on his track 'Summer Came My Way'. Katherine Reynolds took on the lead and Greg instantly knew the song had found its voice. Not only that, Katherine also expertly weaved lyrics from Triple X’s 1999 'Feel The Same' into the track to give it a new twist.

Greg road-tested the recording in a club for the first time in London last December and it’s since become a crowd favourite - the release is greatly anticipated by DJs and dancers alike. Kermit Leveridge, who has worked with The Reynolds on his Blind Arcade project chipped in with the rap section the girls add and also features on a further mix of 'She Can’t Love You', this time coupled with his own 'C’mon Sway' lyrics. Sweet Tooth T is a project channeling the hallowed sounds of New York in the early eighties but - like with Greg’s DJ sets - the sounds from this groovacious past have been reimagined in a contemporary manner.

Born from the desire to explore the space between minimalism and emotional depth, an artistic constraint that turned every sound into a precious element. The project is the work of Astral, who crafted immersive atmospheres with soft analog pads and meticulously designed hi-hat patterns.

From the very first moment, the listener is wrapped in warm, enveloping soundscapes: vintage-character pads drenched in long-tail reverbs and ping-pong delays create a sonic horizon where notes meld and dissolve in constant metamorphosis. Each pad layer is subtly modulated via LFOs and dynamic filters to keep the harmonic fabric continuously breathing.

Rhythm comes through in its most essential form: a clean, deep kick paired with hi-hat samples that are sliced, diced, and reassembled into ever-shifting patterns. Micro-automations of filter cutoff and gentle side-chain compression on the kick make the hi-hats dance within the reverb tails, punctuating the ethereal environments with rhythmic peaks of intensity.

The album unfolds as a meditative journey where minimalism isn’t cold austerity but a path to deeper emotional resonance. Every detail of sound design, every wash of reverb, and every tonal shade becomes an emotional touchpoint. Tracks flow seamlessly into one another, carrying the listener through a spatial continuum where time seems to slow.

With this release, Astral confirms a vision of electronic music that is spare yet deeply felt—a fusion of technology and human emotion in a single sonic experience. Perfect for late-night listening in dim light, it invites immersion in an inner landscape that reflects on the infinite possibilities of minimalist sound.
