Downtown Party Network already come with an excellent pedigree of disco licked tunes for quality imprints like Eskimo, Is It Balearic? Recordings and Dirt Crew. And so the debut appearance on Futureboogie seems like a most comfortable fit, with the ‘Disco Ball Drama’ extended player providing three shining examples of delicious grooves.

Title cut, ‘Disco Ball Drama’ cuts a familiar beat with a rolling and gritty acid-like arpeggio, the classy pads smoothing out the rougher edges and providing huge swashes of sunshine moments on this real mid-season winner.

‘Keep On Running’ on the flip side turns out a heads down, boogie-fest, with its elastic bassline, deep Rhodes chords and lively percussion doing the business here.

Closing the release is ‘No Drama Afterhours’, going down the cosmic alley for a slightly deeper cut. Spatial pads and looping syth arps gently collide over the swinging disco drums whilst the bass plays out an infectious melody, one for the ‘afterhours’ indeed.

Miss Kittin is an artist who needs no introduction. Already an established artist in the house and techno scene for almost two decades, she has brought her one of a kind voice to countless solo projects and collaborations over the years. That combined with her elegant DJ sets played on every continent in the world have instilled her as a tour de force in club land that not many artists can say they have achieved. 

Now Miss Kittin returns to Mobilee as part of the ten-year anniversary celebration with a fresh EP with Nicolas Masseyeff titled "June." The southern French guy is a longtime pal of Miss Kittin, famous for his vast studio talent and sound signature, having previously released on other internationally acclaimed labels such as Suara, Tsuba and Noir among others. The four-track EP features three brand new tracks and two dubs of the title track. Each track is crafted perfectly for the dance floor. Simplicity meets groovy emotional feeling. It's no secret Jimi Jules is an integral part of the Watergate crew since he is a regular fixture at both the club and our international showcases. As well as being a core artist on our very own W Agency we are extremely proud and excited to say we can now include him as part of the Watergate Records roster. When it comes to debuts, it doesn't get any better than Jimi's 'Bogotá' EP and over the course of three tracks, he showcases his best work to date.

Kicking things off with massive, rolling low end and swirling tones is 'Hundeblick'. It's a trippy, big room burner bursting with tension. With long siren-like amplifications swelling relentlessly, 'Hundleblick' surges until it finally crescendos into an obscure yet hauntingly smooth voice.

Next up is the twisted tune 'Modulation' and by relying on just a few integral elements and an insanely infectious groove, the key to this one is in the title. Modulating bleeps, blips and a steady chant of the word 'modulation' create a constantly evolving narrative always held together with expertly crafted percussion. Finally, rounding out the EP is Jimi's most passionate tune of the group, same name as the EP; 'Bogotá'. Layers of harmony, silky guitars and field recordings combine with hints of jazz influence resulting in a perfect tune for serenading the most intimate dance floor moments.

As a whole the EP has been perfectly crafted to provide the definitive tune for any dance floor moment no matter the situation. Compliments to Jimi Jules on an incredible opener and enjoy the ride that is 'Bogotá'.

‘High Drama’ sees SONNS & Phil Kieran team up to drop four leftfield cuts on Hottrax this October. 

Stretching 20 years, Phil Kieran’s illustrious career includes working with legends like Green Velvet, Peter Hook and Gary Numan, remixing Depeche Mode, as well as working closely with David Holmes on numerous projects. Meanwhile, his solo discography features appearances on labels like Hotflush, Yoshitoshi, Soma and Skint, not to mention albums on Cocoon and last year’s Hot Creations debut. 

Based in LA, where the pair produced this EP, Alexandre Mouracade has also earned his stripes with nearly two decades as a musician and DJ. More recently he’s been producing under SONNS and as the duo Split Secs, releasing music on Kompakt, Throne Of Blood and his own label Machine Limited, with a forthcoming release also set to land on ESP Institute. 

Initiating the package, ‘High Drama’ sets the tone with subtle atmospherics as arpeggios make way for infectious percussion and cavernous bass. ‘Syrens’ is similarly intricate in its aesthetic, meandering forward with spectral melodies and squelchy sounds before moving into the esoteric and mesmerizing ‘Castro Novo’. Finally, ‘Engine 29’ is a constantly evolving journey from start to finish with its syncopated rhythm, undulating synths and cacophony of effects.

SONNS & Phil Kieran - Castro Novo

Berlin based DJ Powel is next up on Behrouz’s Do Not Sit on the Furniture
label with five tracks of hugely atmospheric house.
Mixing signature rhythms with fine percussion and real musical and emotival
depth, Powel has become a key player in the globe scene. He’s a resident
with Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream around the world and Do Not Sit on the
Furniture in Miami. He also releases on Sol Selectas and is a real storyteller
as these tracks prove.
Opener Since We’ve Been is a dreamy bit of house with drifting pads passing
by like a warm breeze. Great vocal samples add real heart and ensure this
one radiants real heat. Who Put That Piano in the Jungle is a more tribal and
tropical bit of house with great drums and percussion sounding all steamy and
seductive. The groove runs deep with animal sounds adding to the exotic feel
and great piano lines bringing the melody.
Doorbell Symphony is a smooth deep house groove with subtle pads and
warm chords all fleshing out the rubbery drums. It’s classy and filled with real
emotions before A Record This Quiet picks things up with breezy house vibes.
Great chord stabs and more spring day ambience swirls around as spoken
word samples add feeling and keys drenched in echo are lovably louche and
loose. Last of all, Tuesday Blues sways to and fro with thoughtful pads
encouraging you to cut loose and allow yourself to day dream as you get lost
in the beautiful drums.
This is a tasteful EP of inventive and expressive house music filled with
worldly feelings.
