Ravers! It’s been a long time coming, but House Not House are out of hibernation and back with an absolutely corking release! For HNH019 would couldn’t be more excited to welcome Theo Nasa to the family with the London Sound Bwoy Killer EP.

Over the last half decade, Nasa’s been pushing the UK scene forwards with his trademark ‘alien sounds’ as a producer, DJ and record label head with his Alien Sound Trax. As the name suggest, his alien sounds are space-aged and spaced out; blending London’s acid, jungle and deep tech with Berlin warehouse techno all with Nasa’s trademark sci-fi sensibility and anarchic energy. More recently he put out LSTNBRGHN on the legendary World Unknown label, a release which was pressed to vinyl and promptly sound out world wide (including here in Japan)

In recent years the influence of clubbing in Berghain’s made an ever greater impact on Nasa’s production and DJ sets, but with the Sound Bwoy Killer EP, he’s kept it strictly London with a loving tribute to the sounds of the capital’s underground. Title track is a 130 bpm jungle-tekkno roller. A choppy amen break rolls over cavernous subbass booms amidst a symphony of samples knicked from ‘ardcore classics and tripped out synths and sound effects that slowly build and evolve. The track puts you in a zone as it chugs on, that is until the shot-from-the-blue breakdown into Willie Williams’ Armagideon Time, guaranteed to have every lighter in the rave inna di air.

Next up is the Frankie $ remix which runs with the dubby atmospherics and armageddon thematics to turn the original into a darkside cut of UK tech. Minor-key pads give the remix a melancholic depth, while the booming subbass, ragga samples and amen snippets from the original are given forward propulsion with a snappy rhythm section. Bursting with micro-details like split second scratches and rewinds and driven by whip-crack hi-hats, this is one danceable dystopia. 

Finally Nasa rounds out the EP with Dance Planet with a back-to-the-future reimagining of the ’92
‘ardcore rave scene. The sound pallet is retro with Vamp stabs, Mentasm hoovers an extended sample of MC patter from a rave, alongside countless other cheeky nods to the era for the truly hardcore to pick out. Things are kept fresh from 2018 with plenty of alien sound and crisp 4x4 riddim that’s straight UK house. Taking in the best of house, techno, hardcore and jungle, these three tracks sum up the joy of raving.

トラックメークに加え、Alien Sound Traxというレーベルのオーナーも務めるNasaは、ここ数年彼ならではの尖ったサウンドを磨き、その魂を共有するアーティストも育ててきた。
レーベル名通り、このAlien Soundsというサウンドは妙に宇宙めいた、フューチャーな趣でありながらも、ジャングルなど、イギリスのレーヴ文化に強く根付いている。テクノの聖地であるBerghainにも巡礼を繰り返し、そのインスピレーションを混めて強烈なテクノツールも作っている。その中で最も最強な一曲、LSTNBRGHNはイギリスのWorld UnknownによりVinylリリースをし、（国内外）すぐに売り切れとなった。

London Killer Soundbwoy EPはタイトル通りBerghainテクノよりはロンドンのレーヴシーンを代表する作品。タイトルトラックはAmen Breakを巧妙に取り入れた130BPMのジャングルテクノ。低音域はロンドンらしいサブベース、ウワモノは90年代前半のハードコアジャングルをリップしたヴォーカルやFX。いきなりWillie WilliamsのArmagideon Timeをサンプルしたレゲエになる大胆なドロップは間違いなくフロアを沸かす。

HNHのおなじみなディープテック風に作られたFrankie $のリミックスは、ダビーな効果音や短調なメロディーを描くシンセで深みを生み出しつつ、キレキレなリズム隊で、朝のダンスフロア向けな武器になっている。

Nasaのもう一つのオリジナル、Dance PlanetはMentasmやVampのモーチフを強調しレーヴ繁期に敬意を表する一方、組み方やリズムはAlien Soundしか言いようのないフューチャーなUK産ハウス。

そのシーンを精通し愛しているからこそ、ジャングル、テクノ、ハウスなど、様々なパーツを違和感なく丁寧に織り交ぜることができた、遠い昔のレーヴシーンの喜びを賛美する作品。要チェック。
