Melbourne-based DJ and radio host @milluu has firmly established herself as a vital contributor to the city’s buoyant music scene in recent years. As a true drawcard for the local and global online scenes, and the host of two beloved radio shows, her sunny, groove-laden sound has seen her quickly gain recognition as a deeply skilled selector with an ear (and record bag) perfectly suited to any mood or dancefloor.

Both of her shows - Full Circle on independent station RRR and Dischord on Skylab - are renowned for their perfectly-curated oddities, and give Millú a platform to share her love for both musical diversity and the local scene, with guests and co-hosts joining her to explore genres as far-flung as kraut, downtempo and balearic, through to breaks, acid and IDM.

Taking these same foundational loves into the world with her as a DJ, Millú has graced the stage at numerous key Australian events, including Inner Varnika, Golden Plains, Pitch and Strawberry Fields, delivering stirring, memorable sets either solo, or alongside regular collaborator and partner-in-crime, @pjenne.
Recently, the pair have started work on their latest project, a record label called Companion (@companionmelb), which will delve into downtempo and atmospheric iterations of the electronic underground, bringing the language of ethereal 90s electronica, psychedelic IDM and ambient trance and techno to the present day.  

With Patterns of Perception 81, we find Millú's distinctively warm, dreamy, soulful and adventurous sound in full flight. In this vision, natural soundscapes melt into lush, patient melodies, which in turn rise effortlessly into urgent, liquid rhythms. A seeming disregard for categorisation is betrayed by her careful, well-considered selections and programming, and although countless sounds, feelings and moods pass in the course of this mix, Millú’s uplifting, life-affirming spirit is compellingly present throughout.

"Pavlovabar was one of the most memorable and best gigs of my life! I hadn't been out much in Sydney before so wasn't 100% sure what to expect, but I'd heard from a few friends that Pavs was the spot. I was super excited to be given the trust and freedom to play all night long, I really do love to play long sets with the time to explore a wide range of genres and vibes throughout the night. To my surprise people started showing up quite early and the place was already packed around 1am! The crowd was a beautiful and colourful mix of people from all ages and backgrounds! It was so nice to see. I remember that night it was bloody hot and the aircon wasn't working so people were getting completely naked. The heat kind of added to the mania and people were really pushing me to play harder and crazier. I really loved the give and take of energy and by the end I felt we had all been through something together. 

This mix is a lot more chill than what I played that night, but I do remember playing a lot of Australian stuff. Things from Hymns, Reptant, Logic1000 and others so I tried to play as many Australian and especially Sydney artists as I could. Thanks for having me, hope you enjoy :) " - @katemiller

I was thrilled to be invited by Azu Tiwaline, who I am a huge fan of. I definitely had her in mind while recording this mix, which includes a few tracks from beloved friends, as well as an upcoming track from my label by the enormously talented Tibia. If we were to pick one word to describe Ziggy Devriendt, AKA Nosedrip, it would probably humble. He runs a one-man empire out of the modest Belgian coastal town of Ostend, and his STROOM label is one of the most quietly brilliant outfits in Western Europe. A mixture of obscurer-than-obscure reissues and quirky new material makes for a label as unpredictable as it is essential, and Devriendt's unusual touch is all over it—he prefers to make up his own compilations and sequences instead of just repackaging old records, for example, which explains how important curation and putting songs together is to him.

So it's not a surprise that , in addition to being a music nerd supreme, Devriendt is also a remarkably good DJ, whose ear for oddball cuts translates well into intuitively danceable music. Judging from his RA Podcast, he's had trance on the mind—the mix features flighty beats that range from CJ Bolland and Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia to new-school practitioners like J-Zbel, plus a major highlight from Peter Van Hoesen that you might remember from Marcel Fengler's Berghain 05 mix and plenty of new material from Stroom. (He's also putting out a compilation of Belgian trance, which might explain the direction of this mix.) It's a three hour-ride that varies from jaw-dropping mixing to abrupt, almost shocking transitions that might startle you out of your chair.

For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

To the dedicated few and the newly dedicated, this is a celebration laced with appreciation. The cause for this - we’ve reached a modern-day milestone. We’ve made it to 30 (which is a total of about 3 in podcast years). Honestly, I never thought I'd make it to 30, but I soon came to realise how much good music is out there, and how I should use my powers for good rather evil, so here we are. 

For this momentous occasion, we have a very fitting transmission. Something that he and I have been working towards for the last two years. The man responsible for an audible gift from the gods is none other than Andy Hart himself, aka the slug face millionaire aka choices from the lake aka undies. I call Andy not only a good friend but also a good inspiration, a good breath of fresh country air, a good dose of realism and just a flat out good person. I’ve lived with him, I’ve traveled with him and I’ve shared more than a towel with him. I can comfortably say that Andy will be at my wedding, my funeral and everything in between. 

This mix is the perfect summary of the journey so far. I'd like to think we’ve explored quite a lot over the last couple of years, and I'd also like to think that there’s so much more out there. This perfectly woven galactic tapestry transcends every aspect that you think you know about most things and rewrites the rest. The culmination of many years of putting tracks aside has paid off immensely. The thought and the planning behind this mix actually baffle’s me. It’s the perfect narrative without the narrative, a story without words, a tale of triumph. I may sound a bit dramatic but you obviously haven’t listened to it yet. Just shy of 4 hours, this is the perfect soundtrack to your life in general. It transcends not only stages of the day but also stages of your mind. I'm yet to find the perfect moment/space to listen to it but I think a long drive back from a really good holiday would fit perfectly - or just a cruisey Sunday spring afternoon at home.

About the mix:

"I had toured for the first time in Australia late 2018 and it made a massive impression on me. In many ways, it reminded me of a warmer version of Canada. People were incredibly kind and welcoming and I was blown away by the hospitality the promoters and local artists showed me. I also absolutely adored the incredible nature I saw in Australia, having played in Hobart and Brisbane and Melbourne and Sydney and Adelaide and Hopkins’ Creek Festival in a volcanic crater, I fell in love with the landscapes I saw and the animals local only to this part of the world. So when I first sat down to think about this mix, the bushfires had just started raging and the news was beyond depressing to see. Everywhere I saw online was just videos and pictures of burned animals and ash that was once blooming flora & fauna. A fan from Australia sent me a DM on IG, telling me how my song “Terracotta”, as it’s a track that talks about the sea and land, was able to give them a lot of peace during a time that was anything but.

And so I decided I wanted to make a mix that not only paid tribute to this incredible music scene and country and its amazing artists, but was musically able to provide a sense of solace to people who perhaps feel hopeless about our time on this planet. That is partly why I began the mix with music by indigenous tribes from East Timor—as “modern” people it’s sad to see that we’ve lost touch with the roots of our life on this planet as we know it, and I think we have so much to learn from indigenous cultures and their respect for mother nature. I also chose a lot of dub music, and music that featured lots of organic drums for similar reasons, as these styles of music owe as much to indigenous folk music as they do to modern electronic music. Ultimately I wanted the mix to feel like slipping into a warm bath. Hope it was successful. 🙂"

It was local word of mouth that elevated Australian @katemiller from local to international notoriety. Her ability to fluidly jump genres and eras always leaves dance floors in a spin, and after emerging in Melbourne she followed the music to Berlin when she eventually became resident at the Oscillate party at ://about blank. Those sets allowed her the freedom to explore and pick up a fan base, and now she is someone who tells long and winding stories, with selections and feelings that define her sets more than tempo or technicality.

The 90 minute session Kate lays down for us is perfectly warm and rhythmic. It's united by rubbery kicks and deep, warm sub bass, but ever changing kick patterns and synths that range from absorbing and ambient to dark and paranoid always keep things moving. It is the sound of a DJ who is always in control, a masterclass in tension and release that means you're always on the edge, excited for what is to come.
