Classically trained ballet dancer and multi-media performance Artist turned musician, J. Julian began experimenting with eccentric songwriting and manipulating electronic midi instruments in 2012. 
Eight years and an array of underground releases later ‘This Aint Smooth’ will be J. Julian’s debut single as an Independent Music Artist. 

Previously, J. Julian released two separate self-produced mixtapes (S.A.D.i & AUGUST4) where he experimented with a variety of personas and textures of soundscapes. Julian has performed these works in New York, Los Angeles, Rome and in his hometown Houston, Texas.

Pulling from the success of his international career in the Classical Theater Arts, J. Julian produced ‘This Aint Smooth’ as the foundation to tell a story of an experience in 2020. The title and lyrical message states a simple perspective that could be obvious about todays general climate (things aint smooth). Meanwhile the groovy baseline, snappy percussion and addictive rhythmic melody bring people together on an energy of vibrating dance waves. 

J. Julian’s vocal performance references an appreciation for the falsetto often seen in the disco hits of Earth Wind & Fire, The Bee Gees and Prince. The merge of these vibes with EDM elements bring a language of yesterday up to present day future wave. ‘This Aint Smooth’ has always been an underlying phrase within oppressed communities who still remain resilient in celebrating cultural pride. With all that is going on today, J. Julian wants everyone to dance through the hard times and stay uplifted.
