Diana Azzuz’s (@dianaazzuz) first solo installment on Standard Deviation is the artist’s initial connection to electronic club sounds and presents a subtle transformation within her artistic practice. Through her mostly conceptual approach, Azzuz seeks to challenge notions of sound explicitly by disobeying common expectations and preconceptions. The EP is called ”Anastrophe”, a fitting title describing rearrangement as a strategy to create sound.  

While ”A Very Touchy Spot”, the first track of the EP is a subtle and mysterious entry into Azzuz’ world of sounds, using ambient textures combined with classical drum elements, ”Recursive Gesture” tries to escape this initial idea towards influences of Grime, Bass and contemporary forms of Dubstep creating a powerful bass roller. ”Pathos”, the last track on the EP, is a heavy hitting roundup taking on modern club sounds, using elements of Gabber, Trance and Hardcore. Inherent to all tracks, a rather dark mood carries the tracks and embeds them into a coherent ambiguous feeling of unpredictability, uncertainty and fluidity. 

The EP get’s supported with remixes from M.E.S.H. (@m-e-s-h), who’s contributing with a new Alias ”eea” (Extreme Energy Availability) on ”Recursive Gesture” and Cologne based musician Swan Meat (@swanmeat) rounds it up, taking a shot on ”Pathos”.

The writing process leads the narrative between empowerment and struggles, dedication and pain, growing as a dynamic balance between fun and provocative statements, uplifted through kicks and variations. «R.I.P Daddy» is a long story short told in a fragment of lines and a few takes, bounced in millennial references and a glance of irony, low-key contemporary and truly yours.

UNISON is the debut album from PARAADISO, a duo composed of musician TSVI and audio-visual artist Seven Orbits.

Inspired by Italian folk music, noise, ancient choral acoustic compositions, rituals and their functions, the album focuses on conveying a sense similar to those felt in ancient gatherings and ceremonies where the collective physical experience meant heightened stimulation at both the individual level and collective level.

Contrary to individual experience, collective experience is necessarily rooted in (shared) patterns of action and behavior; it has been studied that the sense of a joint consciousness emerges from such patterns of action and a sense of ''relatedness' is developed between members of the group; relatedness is a form of shared identity, which in turn can transform intragroup social relations and future re-Action. Experiences of synchrony and collective emotion induce in individuals a shift between two parallel cognitive “modes”, from the individual to the communal, generating feelings of openness, inclusion, and prosociality and sometimes even dissolution of the self-other distinction.

All human life and all human interaction are profoundly social: our everyday lives do not take place in isolation but constantly require our engagement with other people. The artists unknowingly sought these qualities emerging during the creation of the work as isolation and disconnection raised dramatically over the past two years and have created a piece in response to that which aims to be performed and experienced in a live context as an audio - visual experience.

Besides Action Sports, the duo of friends and frequent collaborators Matthew Pepitone (alias Karmelloz) and Dylan Howe (alias Cplusplus) together form another two vital projects - Julius Theory and Portland Compressor. As Actions Sports they candidly combine their solo approach into sublime and multifaceted compositions, welcoming the listener with a great dose of warmth and pleasantly-colored sentiment. After dropping their first eponymous longplay via Barcelona-based label angoisse, Gin&Platonic is proud to present the duo's follow-up – 'Action Sports 2', which marks their most diverse and complex work yet.

Moderately reinterpreting the legacy of such as BoC or Biosphere while still staying up to date, the duo ambitiously joins the rank of rising contemporary ambient-oriented projects, recruiting from labels like West Mineral or Motion Ward. Beautifully balanced and elegantly composed, the music on Action Sports 2 seeks to erode the delimiters between pristine hi-fi digital dub, abstracted electronic glitches, and the smoked-out, but emotive haze of the American Pacific Northwest ambient. Being released in early November, the mesmerizing longplay calls for repeated listens while out on cold strolls through nature trails, or just leaving unpacked for a proper evening couch voyage with a thick damiana spliff in hand. Either way, Action Sports 2 offers enough thought space for the inherent and low-key rewarding post-summer contemplation.

Duma are a band hailing from Nairobi, Kenya.  Making music for "people that have left society" & released with @nyege-nyege-tapes .  I discovered them via @maryanne Hobbs' "Metal Week" special on BBC Radio 6 and got inspired to dig further. discovering their amorphous sound presented on a standout self-titled release in 2020.
