With a djing journey that has spanned more than 15 years, Dean Chew (aka Funk Bast*rd) has earned praises from a worldwide range of selectors that include the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lefto, Bradley Zero, San Soda, Hugo LX, Dam-Funk, Dreamcast Moe and more. Being the co-founder of Singapore-based label Darker Than Wax and the newly opened listening bar Offtrack, Dean has been tirelessly pushing and promoting an alternative expression of lefteld music through his widely eclectic and genre-bending sets. Being the main A+R and creative mind behind DTW, the label has flourished tremendously over the past 5 years, cementing its place as one of the go-to labels out of South East Asia.

His musical selections, which traverses across an extensive spectrum from deep jazz to the freshest cuts have left many indelible marks on the dancefloors. A highly respected digger who is also known by many in the circuit for his extensive musical knowledge, technically astute skills, and blends, it’s no surprise that he has warmed up or shared the stage with Bradley Zero, Lefto, HAAI, Pearson Sound, the late Mike Huckaby and many more. Most recently, Dean has debuted at Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here festival, and was also the 1st Singaporean selector to have played a set on the cult HÖR radio platform.

There’s always an element of surprise in his sets - just open them ears.

Passion by name, passion by nature. Freedom Phillips' musical journey embodies just that. Music took hold of her at a young age thanks to the family she had around her, and an obsession with collecting records followed at just 11 years old. 

She soaked up early grime then rare 90s US garage house and UK G sounds, honing her skills as a DJ and birthing the moniker Lady Passion in the process. She digs deep, it's something that's never left her - you can hear these finds on her longstanding, weekly residency on London mainstay Vision Radio every Friday.

The musical family that surrounds her also continues to inspires her. Alongside her brother DJ Perception - a pioneering force in underground UKG - several years ago they began to build musical hub in their new home for a community of DJs, producers and MCs in South London. It's this space, and the story behind it, that has been documented over the last six years as 'Moodswing', a film that will be released in the near future and takes its name from Perception's record label.

As we enter the weekend, and the sun begins to shine down over London, Lady Passion lights up our day that little bit more with a mix of warm, soulful and bouncy UKG and Garage House selections...

Native to New York, musclecars is a DJ / Producer duo consisting of Brandon Weems and Craig Handfield. As musicians, they equally share an admiration for the artform. Their desire to blend genres and express their appreciation for music is focused around their community- the end goal is to bring people together. Through a regular stream of high quality mixes, they have begun to turn heads in underground circles.

In 2018 they launched ‘Coloring Lessons’, a party that was aimed to add value to their city’s nightlife culture. While the party and sound is not genre specific, it is heavily focused around house, disco, jazz, and soul, embracing the musical elements of their black and brown ancestors. The monthly party's intention is to bring New York City's dance music scene back to what it was during the golden era of NY nightlife. They aim to spread the music that has been influential to them, and share it with a younger generation of their peers.

Black queer and trans people were forced to build space, shelter and sanctuary in the dancerie so we could all be free…follow us and Deborah Conton (@deeeebo_x)as she leads us through cultural memory, history, place and legacy. Deborah Conton is an Atlanta native and Brooklyn resident actively involved in the club scene in Atlanta with many nights spent on the dancefloor, listening to Club Classics and House Music. 
She continues to create movement-based work for the Liberation of Black bodies. Her work led her to stage solo pieces for Movement Research (Judson Church), Performance Mix Festival, That's What She Said!, Sisterhood Summit, and the Center for Performance Research in Brooklyn via dance residency in 2020. She has also performed at Joe’s Pub and SummerStage, under the guidance of The Illustrious Blacks. She is part of a Brooklyn-based dance collective known as Afro Mosaic Soul. This collective threw events with Ian Friday and The Illustrious Blacks, known as Libation in New York City. She is also a part of the Dancing Black Bodies Project via Ladies of Hip Hop, which sheds light on Black Women in the club, Hip Hop, and other Black Social Dance movements. 
House Music was the catalyst that led her deeper into her spiritual practice. She is also a practitioner of Isese Lagba, a tradition based out of Nigeria and also an Ifà practitioner. This work has led her to do collective work under the moniker of Dee Spark Tarot and create an Oracle deck that expands outside of divination work and mentorship. She is also in the process of launching a Tarot Deck this upcoming Spring 2023.
