Welcome to the Collectors Volume 2 in our Guest Mix Series.
We proudly introduce RMN (pronounced Are-Men). Emerging from the bedroom to the living room and sharing some of his essential tunes from what is clearly a quality curated and very well seasoned collection.

Armen comes to us in a time capsule, with a set of records mostly from the 90's. Reaching back for a set of some personal Chicago and East Coast classics that refuse to get stale we go from deep and funky to soulful and tribal.  Born into a dance-orientated culture he grew up banging on hand drums at gatherings.  In college, in the mid 90s, the discovery of the underground had a life-path-altering effect as he and his crew of rowdy misfits journeyed the New England region often in search of the unifying force on the dancefloor.   As tastes matured the realization that what the legends at Shelter, Loft, Cajual, Strictly Jaz Unit and Body & Soul are doing resonated the most.  The record collecting goes back 3 decades but the focus has always been the dancefloor rather than the limelight.  
Advanced stage music appreciation is now more occasionally done in dark rooms of Los Angeles, where floor-work and -baby powder are uncommon, with the sentimentality for the golden era always nagging.  
Selections of this blend include  Abacus, Claussell, GU, Kupper, Feliciano, Harley & Muscle, M&M, Fiasco, Jovonn, Marlon D will resist your instinct to be a wallflower.   So, turn it up, don't sit back, and enjoy.

NURELIC - DJ / Producer 
NURELIC, originally a Vinyl-Only ‘Selecta’ brought up during the 80’s in council estate settings within the London borough of Islington, North London. “Growing up, my home was filled with the sounds of Soul, Motown & Jazz mostly...when Arsenal wasn’t playing!”. 

The initial engagement with music began during his teenage years & the late 90”s collecting records. During a time of Pirate Radio Stations & Underground parties across the capital specializing in US/UK House & Garage. Fueled predominantly by a passion for sharing music, the DJ booth became the perfect setting to learn the art of entertainment & how to capture the imagination of the audience.
Whilst the variety of styles within the UK Garage genre increased post-2000, NURELIC would define his DJ style specifically by his inspirations from earlier years...“I wanted to make sure the real sound of the Underground Garage that I grew up on during the late 90’s, out-lasted the material that had more commercial success later on & became more widely labeled as UK Garage”. This statement aligns perfectly with what you hear curated in this mix for the good folks at VADR, a selection from between 97-99 that has most definitely inspired NURELIC to take a leap into Music Production throughout the past couple of years (2022-2024).
Steadily building an archive of self-released material alongside ventures into the world of presenting his own vinyl to the market, the initial success & acceptance of his NU:Music movement is steadily gaining traction across the current Underground Dance Music scene.

Bristol UK’s McCabe made his name in house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds and remixing the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Evelyn Champagne King, Carolyn Harding, Blaze, and Roland Clark. Since then he’s amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired productions for labels like Local Talk, Strictly Rhythm, Vega Records, Tribe, and Quantize – plus an original solo album for Z Records.

A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘90s garage-house dubs and much more besides.

As an artist, his 2014 debut album entitled ‘It’s Time’ on Dave Lee’s Z Records displays his musical range and versatile quality production skills. 

As a DJ, he forged a reputation at the legendary Southport Weekender, where he performed regularly. Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right. Sean has also travelled the world, playing as far afield as Asia and South Africa, as well as regular appearances across Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.

As a producer, McCabe is constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions. He admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. In 2016, Sean continued his musical journey by launching ‘Good Vibrations Music’ record label – a natural evolution of his renowned Good Vibrations events in Bristol.

Sean opens up August 2024 for VADR with something that emits really positive vibes and emotion evoking selections. A very unique offering from one of our greatest- modern underground musical influences to date. We are delighted and eternally grateful for this most generous contribution.
