Athlete Whippet join the Toy Tonics family! The London/ Berlin-based duo makes a sound that is based on futuristic breakbeats combined with deep jazz chord progressions and a kind of funk that sounds more like it was made in 2100 than in a year behind us. Definitely not a retro record. The “Vesta EP” is a further proof that the connection between London and Berlin, that has been build by several Toy Tonics artists (Cody Currie is the latest in the gang), is becoming a strong one. The combination of the Berlin dancefloor sound and the UK jazz fusion soul is changing the scene and creating new moods. Neo soul and house, broken beats and disco… There are a lot of things happening in that new world and Athlete Whippet could be a strong player in that sound.

Razor-N-Tape adds yet another new name to the roster with their latest release from Belgium’s @ucbeatz, delivering the deep housey business he’s become known for as founder of the limited-run vinyl-only label @entrepotrecords. On the A side, Midnight Swing is peak-time house affair with pulsating chords and infectious sampled vocals, while Bleu Ciel smooths it out with luscious synths and a familiar voice over a driving classic drum machine beat. @1codycurrie turns in a jazzy and bumpin remix of Bleu Ciel on the flip, adding his own vocals into the mix and the record winds down with the stripped-down and sultry Broken Idyll.

Nashville's dusty funkateers Magic In Threes return to RNT Reserve with a triptych of low-strung grooves, each complimented by a superlative remix. Chupa Cabra, a sweet soulful joint, is reimagined as a devilishly pulsating and funky burner by RNT mainstays @justsayfouk on their remix. Parisian @patchworks takes the 70s-cop-show funk of Work Tapes straight to Nigeria with a beautifully crafted highlife remix. Finally there's Come On Down, reminiscent of classic Donald Byrd in the Larry Mizell days, which is beefed up and readied for the dance floor by analog wizard @lay-far. The digital release also includes another original track with a stellar remix by https://soundcloud.com/coeo. Overall, a lovely package for listening, or bumping!
