Unsere Nummer 216 kommt heute von einem Berliner Künstler, der mich bereits seit langer Zeit begleitet. Die Rede ist von HOVR, einem vielschichtigen DJ mit dem Hang zum Speziellen. Daher war es nur eine Frage der Zeit gewesen bis er uns mit einem speziellen Mix beglücken würde.

Natürlich haben wir es uns nicht nehmen lassen ihm einige Fragen zu stellen.

Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Ich hab mich mit 5 ins Klavier vernarrt und hab schon ganz früh angefangen eigene Melodien zu klimpern. Zwischendurch war ich dann auf Gitarre, Percussion und Gesang fixiert. Mit 18, als Berlin meine Wahlheimat werden sollte, dachte ich, dass ich in verrauchten Bars meine singer-songwriter-Karriere starten sollte. Hat nicht so geklappt. Außerdem kamen die Plattenspieler dem zuvor und jetzt lege ich seit 5 Jahren leidenschaftlich auf erfreue mich jedes mal wenn ich auf Festivals, Open Airs und in Clubs die Zeit dekorieren darf. Das Produzieren kam 2019 dazu, schloss die Lücke zwischen nur auflegen und Musik 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 und hat seit Corona viel Hingabe erfahren wegen weniger Partys :D Dieses Jahr kommen noch einige spannende Releases von mir, auf die ich mich schon sehr freue. 
 

Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Zwei Dinge definieren für mich eine gute Afterhour: Menschen und Snacks. Man braucht den richtigen Vibe, um eben doch noch nicht schlafen zu gehen und den machen die alten und neuen friends aus mit denen du unterwegs bist. Und was gutes zu essen holt nochmal ein paar Lebensgeister hervor. Gerne direkt neben dem Club voll verschwitzt und stinkend ein Pizzastück bestellen..Nostalgie pur! Freue mich schon wenn das wieder stattfindet!
 

Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Bei mir stehen gerade ganz schön viele Wechsel im Leben an, vielleicht war mir deshalb so danach, verschiedene Einflüsse in ein Midtempo-Set zu packen, von Arutani über Underworld zu einem unreleasten Dark-Disco Song von mir wurde es ein bunter Musiksalat - hoffentlich mit rotem Faden ;) Passt ja eigentlich ganz gut zur wiederkehrenden Afterhour-Saison! Oder ist die eh ganzjährig?

I spent an entire(!) day creating this mix - more time than I ever dedicated to a set. Putting what flow means to my current musical self into exactly 3 hours, 33 minutes and 33 seconds was an immense challenge. I had so much space to tell a story from very chill vibes to progressive sounds I’d play in a dark, sweaty club at 5am. Interestingly, working on the set itself was a very flowing experience, in which I forgot that morning turned into night. Just recently, I experienced a wonderful naked tea party where I got to DJ, and met its organizer Danielle. I asked whether she could describe what flow means to her - which she did in a voice message, which then turned into the intro of my set. Flow is letting go, trust, surrender and so much more. This fusion festival was - again - everything. Amazing artists, lots of rain, a camp full of new friends, and I had the honors of playing on two small stages. Even though both sets were interrupted for reasons beyond my control you all showed me so much love on the dancefloor I teared up afterwards. I'm happy that the recording of the second set worked. It was the daytime one on Friday eve. From dreamy sounds to space disco and back. Excited to hear what you think. Big love to the crews for having me and see you hopefully next year. ❤️

Driven by an infectious hi-NRG jack, processed synth stabs and 303-fueled bass squelch, HOVR's single combines laser-guided ghetto tech attributes with true-school Detroit house tropes to deadly effect. In the hands of Biesmans, the track hatches into a further roller-coaster-like ride - flush with obsessive arpeggios, hard-hitting claps and a further muscular buildup, whilst getting the message across with even greater loads of anthemic vibrations and boundary-pushing apropos. Inspired by a chance encounter at the bar of KitKat Club, the track grew from a handwritten poem into a fully realised narrative performance. Oliver Koletzki quickly recognised its potential and championed it as a single, echoing the introspective spirit of his own classic 'The Power of Rausch'.

Wolf’s gravelly voice carries the story of a drifting Berlin archetype, while HOVR weaves a dark, emotional soundscape where tension and fragility meet. Built around sparse textures and a single, striking Prophet chord progression, it is less a club track than a piece of spoken-word electronica meant to be felt as much as heard.

Closely linked to its accompanying music video, 'Etwas Fehlt' emerges as a striking addition to HOVR’s catalogue — a testament to their storytelling instinct and a bold step forward in their artistic evolution.

HOVR is a producer and DJ from Berlin. Raised by a cellist alongside the piano and other instruments, it was only a question of time until he became a professional music producer. He quickly established himself in Berlin's colorful scene and started tours around the world that are showcasing his unique, genre-bending groove.
