3 QUESTIONS to BIESMANS:

Q: Talking about your mix, a vinyl only selection: How did you select the tracks and what do these records still mean to you?

A: I started buying (mainly Trance) records in '97 and I decided to put a mix together that shows my evolution over a time span of roughly 10 years. You can see it as a journey from playing records at home in my basement till the point where things got more serious and I was playing a lot in (local) clubs. Musically this translates into a trip from Trance to Techno with a pinch House. This mix brought back so much good memories, goosebumps all the way!!!

Q: How did you spend your time since the first lockdown?

A: I’ve spent my time in the studio. It’s my outlet, a way to stay sane and don’t get depressed I guess. I really cannot say where I would be without my music in a time like this. I’m not the type of person that can sit back and ride this thing out from the couch. I need to put my energy into something and that something is music!
 
Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect from you the next months?

A: I’m doing several things right now. First of all I gave myself a little challenge to make (unofficial) remixes of Belgian 80’s classics. I felt it could be a way to explore different musical territories and its so much fun dive into the music I grew up with. I’m even contacting the original artists behind these songs and they all love the idea! Apart from that I’m also focussing on new originals and also a few remixes for some amazing artists! This year there will be coming new music on a monthly basis so keep your ears pealed!

I am talking about a really good old friend and homie - Patrick Bodmer. You probably know him as M.A.N.D.Y.. He has been around for a long time, has big hits, was very successful and still is. And I just accidentally heard a track that he did together with his friend Maga feat. Inga Humpe. You probably know her as the woman of 2Raumwohnung. And I was listening to this track in my kitchen and it was not signed so I signed it right away on my label Sous Music. Time is on my side M.A.N.D.Y. together with Maga feat. Inga Humpe. So I asked M.A.N.D.Y. if he wants to contribute a Club Room set and he was digging deep. He gave his absolute best. So this is the Club Room of M.A.N.D.Y.. 

We are gonna have Pete Lazonby, we have of course the 2Raumwohnung, Perel, M.A.N.D.Y. together with Maga and Inga Humpe and I have a remix of it that he played in his set, Sam Goku and Paula Tape, Maglia is on the show, Catnapp and Geoffrey C, Mr Joe, Raxon, Nina Kraviz in a Ryan Elliott Tension Dub, Blawan, Rhode & Brown together with Benjamin Fröhlich, Mr. V and Wolf Story, Joe Smooth, Flug 8 and Acid Pauli, and we’re gonna Close the Club Room with Josh Butler.

▌I Did your approach on creating music change during the pandemic and did it maybe even influence your style?
The pandemic definitely influenced my style, especially for the production of my second Album which is almost done. During the pandemic I finally found some time to listen to different genres, different sounds. I finally had the time to experiment with different sounds with no rush. I was able to try new things and also make some music that is not only dance floor orientated. 

▌II What’s your favorite food? What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially?
I started djing at the age of 16. Back then it was mostly Drum & Bass, BreakBeat and Hip hop. 
A couple years later I became a resident at Dub Club. Dub Club was a very important Monday night party at flex. They booked all kinds of Headliners from all types of genres, because of that I had to play the warm up with the right sound. So I started to buy records from all different styles like House, Electro, Hip Hop and even Dub/Reggae. I am pretty sure that this experience influenced me as a DJ and producer. 

▌III How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
I recorded this set basically on the road at the hotel in Croatia when I was playing at the Lighthouse Festival. The Festival is by the sea so the nature and the good summer vibes definitely influenced me for this mix. I didn't want to make a dark set, I tried to add tunes that have some kind of the night club vibes and also some day time party sunny positive feelings.

Q: Let's get into the mood for your mix: Why did you select these tracks and what do they still mean to you today?

A: I wanted to dig through my vinyl collection and find some key influential tracks that made me want to one day create electronic music. These tracks shared a lot of music technology even though they were from different genres. I regularly go back to these songs as I can still feel that initial influence these tracks had as I heard them for the first time as a kid. They seemed so futuristic. Without all the info we have at our disposal today, I remember just wondering how and where these tracks came from. They continue to inspire me to this day. 

Q: How did you reflect the past 2 years of pandemic for yourself, your creativity and your life?

A: It was of course a very strange time, but it gave me time to focus on what’s important and how I want to continue with my work and everything else as normalcy is slowly returning. Those 2 years really helped me to focus in and appreciate quality time with everything I do, wether it’s being home, working on music or performing. 

Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect soon?

A: I’ve got a new solo EP out on Palette July 29th called “Nocturama.” Also, my remix of Orbital’s “Impact” is out on the same day.

Q: Getting into the mood for your mix: Why did you choose these tracks and what do they still mean to you?

A: It's a mix that I used to do a lot in the mid 1990's! There is a relationship with Laurent Garnier. I trained to mix in my record shop Ozone Records that I opened in 1995 in Grenoble! And it was in this shop that I met The Hacker, Kittin and Oxia.

Q: How did you reflect the past 2-3 years of pandemic for your DJ and producer career?

A: During the pandemic I produced my 6th album which will be released in September 2023.

Q: You are still producing and releasing a lot of stuff. What is your focus on music in 2023?

A: My new album with a lot of collab tracks with my friends and I will release 200 tracks from my back catalog, period 1995-2012!
