Q: Let's get into the mood for your mix. What did these tracks mean to you once?

A: Every single track in this mix means pretty much everything to me. It sums up 100% what I used to play in Berlin - in the year 2003 & 2005 & 2007. I played each of these tracks a million times probably back then:) The first 2 hours were mixed on Vinyl. It’s a mix of Rap, Dope Beats, Soul & Funk, Nu-Jazz, Electroclash, Indie Dance, Disco Rock, Aristocratic Booty Beats, B-More, Mash-Ups, Favela Funk, Post Cash Pop & Pre-Madonna, Low-End, Hiptronica, Dubstep, Jungle. I am still realizing how much these records mean to me (even if some of them are very cheesy but HEY so much fun!)  than those billions of MP3s I carry around in my USB stick now. 

Q: How did you follow the development of electronic music the past decades?

A: I used to be a Hip Hop DJ in the middle / late 1990ies but got quickly bored with just playing one style. I bought records from various genres. I went in tons of different Vinyl stores in Berlin and was always looking for the perfect beat - no matter what genre and then try to mix it up and present my music history / background to the audience. I later started ordering some Vinyl in Manchester via Picadilly Records - I guess around 2004. They were early on with the Indie Dance sound which seems to be popular in these days again. Via Broken Beats, UK Garage, Disco & Indie Dance I  got more into House / Deep House / Acid and a bit of Techno (the good one - not the bad one) later. I used to have a weekly 2 hour radio show on Radio Fritz in Berlin/Potsdam - from 2008 until 2016 - I always covered lots of different dance genres. Anything was possible and still is for me these days.

Q: Which future Shir Khan projects are currently on the way - so: What's coming next?

A: Gonna release a new Black Jukebox edition in September. Black Jukebox is my Disco House Vinyl Series. Go and have a look for: Shir Khan Presents Black Jukebox 32. It’s hot! Besides that I am keeping busy with my label Exploited and also focus on some new projects here in Asia. Living in Bangkok since some years now and currently enjoying island life on Koh Phangan, Thailand. Sadly we are still in sort of a lockdown - but I am trying to stay optimistic & focused meanwhile.

HOW I MET THE BASS is a concept series, founded and hosted by @marc-depulse. 

It's not about mixing the current charts - it's about your roots. A storyteller. Music from your childhood and youth that once had a big impact on your later doings, showing musicially how you got in touch with Electronic Music back in the days.
