Philipp Fein aus Köln hat unsere Nummer 78 gemischt. Er ist Co-Founder von Feines Tier, Ancient Future Now und des Jack Who, in dem er sich bis zur Schließung um das Booking gekümmert hat. Seinen musikalischen Ursprung sieht Philipp im Funk und Hip Hop, was auch in seinen heutigen Sets und Tracks eindeutig zu hören ist. Seine erste Veröffentlichung feierte er im Jahr 2012 mit dem Titel “Slinga” und zuletzt beglückte er uns mit seinem Edit von Waldeck - Get Up … Carmen, der auf Feines Tier erschienen ist. In der Zwischenzeit sind einige Remixe in der Zusammenarbeit mit Johannes Klingebiel, unter dem Pseudonym 106er entstanden.
Feinsinnig, vielfältig und genau; Diese Attribute beschreiben ihn und sein Set für uns sehr gut. Wir wünschen euch viel Spaß mit über 90 Min. Philipp Fein!

3 QUESTIONS to HIDDEN EMPIRE:

Q: How did you two guys meet once and how did you both come to electronic music? 

A: We met each other at a festival in Bonn. We liked each other personally and musically so we decided to do a studiosession. After a while we finished a lot of tracks and officially started the project "Hidden Empire".

Q: Your music and live-set sounds so powerful. Which hardware may not be missed in your studio and on the stage?

A: In our early ages we love to go to raves like Mayday and Nature One. Impressed by the energy and the power of electronic music, we both started as bedroomproducer/djs. on two turntables and one mixer.

Q: There is an album coming on Stil Vor Talent. Which further projects are on the way?

A: All components are important. But at the moment we are really in love with the new Pioneer Toraiz Sampler for our liveshows. In the studio and live we use a lot of Native Instruments Hard- and Software, which is essential for our productions.

3 QUESTIONS to STIMMING:

Q: Lets talk about your exciting mix. From Ambient to Drum N Bass, from heartbreaking melodys to distorted beats: How did these different tracks and styles have an early impact on your career?

A: Well, the music I played here is pretty much the kind of music I listen and listened to in general. In a sense this mix represents my musical horizon - I just restrained to go further than Amon Tobin on the complex side of things. I took the name of the series literally and tried to sketch the path I took in meeting the bass: starting with Trip Hop, followed by Drum And Bass to finally meet the 4/4 formula. All framed by an approach that doesn't care too much about popularity but is much more about musicality and aesthetics. Even a bit of radicalism if you think of Krust’s "Warhead".

Q: Field recording has become an important part of making your own music. As you also used some recordings inside this podcast, give us a little insight please.

A: Yes, I included two in the mix here: one is just raindrops recorded from inside my car - one day I figured how beautiful rain sounds when dropping not too hard on the panorama roof. The other recording I made while I was in Mumbai - I played there but had a bit of time off the next day. So I took a walk and brought my portable recorder - the recording took place in between two streets on a traffic island and I was seriously frightened to death to leave it. I needed about ten minutes to be brave enough to again cross the street. But allow me to say: yes, I use found sounds in the broadest sense in my music but for me they are just a source just like any other.  Synth, piano, plugin, sampler, field record, my voice - it's all just a part of the painting.

Q: Your last album “Alpe Lusia” has been produced on top of the italian alps in 2016. Which future Stimming projects are on the way and where are you planning to work on them?

A: Concept-wise I will build content for a concert type of show so my next album might leave the strict 4/4 formula (again?). But in the meantime I got a family which I’m afraid I won’t be able to leave for such a long time again like for the "Alpe Lusia" album. Two months after the wodden cabin in the italian alps I also joined a cargo ship for a week to build the liveset which I still play (elektron octatrack based, no laptop at all) and afterwards I realized I fulfilled two live-dreams just on time before son#1 was about to join us.

Once again on top of the big Warrior. Every time is like the first time, it feels like riding a giant horse in the desert and tension is always something to deal with. But when finally the crispy sound coming out from the speakers wraps me up I’m in the zone and the magic starts. Gracias MW
