Rocking Chair (It's Gonna Be All Right)

A highlight from Neil Sedaka's "The Hungry Years" was a new version of "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do." His 1962 original, a No. 1 hit single, was an upbeat pop song, while the remake was a slow ballad, based on a similar arrangement by a Lenny Welch 1970 recording. Sedaka's version hit No. 8 on the Hot 100 in early 1976, making him the only artist to ever record entirely reworked and rearranged versions of the same song to both reach the Billboard Top 10. The 1976 ballad version also hit No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.

Summer, Highland Falls by Billy Joel is another long sought backing track. Released on the Turnstiles LP in May 1976, this song is arguably the best ballad of Billy's career. The sparse instrumental arrangement showcases lyrics that are as poignant today as they were 36 years ago. I'm thrilled to have finally located the track and delighted to offer you my new recording of this wonderful song.

Many have asked why I don't cover Beatles songs. Actually, I've recorded a couple but this is the first time I'm posting one on YouTube. And yes, I realize this is a post-Beatles song, but only by a year or so. Enjoy.

It Don't Come Easy, written in 1970 by Ringo Starr and George Harrison, was released as an Apple Records single in April of 1971. The "all star"studio band included George Harrison on guitar, Klaus Voorman on bass guitar, Stephen Stills on piano, Ron Cattermole on saxophone and trumpet, Badfinger members Pete Ham and Tom Evans on background vocals and Ringo on drums and lead vocals. With a lineage like that, the song couldn't miss. It reached #4 on both the US and UK singles charts.
