When Deep Dish played Pacha Ibiza in 2018, it was one of the group’s biggest reunion shows to date celebrating the 20th anniversary of their first show at Pacha, Ibiza. DJing to thousands at the legendary white isle club, the duo played an expertly crafted mix of tried-and-true classics, cutting-edge records, and unreleased material from both members. One of those tracks has been the subject of much attention, until now only available in the recording of the set released by Dancing Astronaut a year ago. Comments requesting its ID have inundated the page for months, with various DJ’s inquiring about it. Well, the time is upon us to finally unveil the mystery: “Do Ya” by Sharam. Built around a swirling, arpeggiated synth that comes and goes in many forms throughout its arrangement, the track balances elements of melodic techno, progressive house, and even golden-era trance to create something truly timeless. It’s really one of Sharam’s finest works in recent memory.

We’ve paired the track with another one from the label boss that’s been bubbling in his sets for quite some time, “Isolate,” which leans much more towards dark, driving, and hypnotic techno. Sharam decided to tweak and finish the track as a result of the extended quarantine, and is his first isolation-inspired track (hence the name). Isolate’s syncopated stabs build and stack on each other in a multitude of layers, coalescing into a complex, distorted, and infectious groove. The track wouldn’t sound out of place on Sharam’s 2017 techno album Collecti.

As Sharam’s first solo effort of the new decade, it doesn’t start on much of a higher point. Both tracks on this split demonstrate the veteran’s ability to craft diverse and thought-provoking tracks that draw just enough on current trends to sound relevant but not enough to sound stagnant.

With his track "The Higher" Martin Merz creates a connection between traditional composition and electronic music. "The Higher" uses classic instruments such as guitar and bass, together with field recordings and analog synthesizers to create a homogeneous, soft tapestry of sound. Co-founder of the label Paul Louth steps up for the first release under new alias Agile Kind, providing two brilliantly deep & punchy cuts that are just drenched in groove. 

Title track ‘Pyramid’ is a blissful, bouncy roller, rich with acid textures, tight percussion and wonderfully worked progressions. The track grows through emotive peaks and troughs, forever pushing the dancefloor toward a joyful state of euphoria.

The second track from Louth comes in the form of ‘Mime’, a track with a similarly crisp sound, precise and incredibly chunky. ‘Mime’ breathes at a slower, sleazier pace and works through warm yet haunting pads, luscious synth stabs lined with reverb and a relentless c hugging bassline.

Rounding off the EP are two remixes of ‘Pyramid’. First up is Ki rk Degiorgio aka As One, a British legend in the electronic music scene, who drenches the track in his signature sound of Detroit influenced Techno. Degiorgio introduces beautifully layered strings and pads, which build around a hefty kick and an acid-tinged bassline. The end result is a dreamy peak time beast you can totally lose yourself to.

Finally, we have a devilishly ballsy techno stomper from Oliver Moon himself, laden with raw percussive textures, driven by a thumping 909 kick and accompanied by a ruthless 303 line.

Michael Hooker has been a revered name in the worlds of techno and melodic house for quite some time. The UK-bred, US-based DJ, producer, and label owner is known for his tasteful blend of heavy rhythms and catchy melodic sequences which have seen releases on labels like Desert Hearts Black, Dear Deer, Suah, and his own Re:Sound Music. Michael makes his debut on Yoshitoshi with the Warning EP, featuring two unique originals and a stunning remix from progressive house mainstay Quivver.

“Warning” is the kind of hard and heavy techno that seems to build forever, its rising leads and soaring sounds creating a sonic tornado of tension before unleashing flurries of sirens and pounding drums. As Nigel Tufnel might say, this one “goes to 11.”

"Reculture returns for the second instalment of its newly launched record label series. 

Stepping up we have trio S.E.T. with an eclectic single accompanied by 3 diverse remixes. 
 
Whilst each track has it's differences, the EP predominantly revolves itself around the outlandish and abstract tones that are introduced by the Original Mix.
 
"06:19 (Original Mix)" is a modular unorthodox jam that crosses and brings together different elements across subgenres. The combination of vocals, an unconventional bassline and synths make it a memorable track that will leave you curious for more.
 
"06:19 (Hardt Antoine Remix)" reinterprets the original record by creating a club groove dynamic to his remix through the use of an alternate bassline, distorted lead and rearranged vocals. Hardt Antoine Returns for his second release on the label and does so with style. 
 
"06:19 (Massimiliano Pagliara Remix)" reinvents the bassline of the original with a 303 disco/acid overhaul setting the tone and style of the track, Massi's reinvention of the original brings energy to the dancefloor through the use of the lyrics and a suspenseful build-up making it a club anthem. 
 
"06:19 (Argy Remix)" encapsulates the dreamy ingredients of the original and bases the whole track around this, whilst being escorted by an afro-groove which creates an exclusive appraoach compared to the other remixes"
