Ivna Ji - Running On Instinct

The collaborative project of Croatian producers Zarkoff and Man Of Cloth take care of the fifth release on R$N sub-label Human Endeavour.

The pair have previously collaborated under the guise of Lab Personnel, a Zagreb-based record label and collective who take an improvisational approach to synthesis, but as Motion To Strike, ‘Into Exile’ marks their debut outing.

Constructed from Zarkoff’s barebone ideas, and morphed into gripping spoken word EBM-techno tracks by Man Of Cloth, this union of potent lyricism and dark, metallic synth rumblings make for a dystopian soundtrack for the end of days.

Zarkoff takes the role of lyricist and vocalist, one he’s no stranger to (earmark his releases for Dark Entries as Sumerian Fleet and as Neugrau alongside DJ Pauli), and provides us with a searing commentary that sits atop Man Of Cloth’s frenetic synthesis of thunderous rhythms, stirring synthlines and ominous overtones.

It's the sound of privileged cynicism walking towards the gallows of late capitalism, doing a slight jig. Pure joy.

For their next reissue project Delsin turn to this classic from 1992 by Random XS. This pioneering Dutch techno production outfit, with a tight live reputation, was closely aligned to the Saskia Sleger's legendary Djax-Up Beats-label. 

This EP features the original, legendary a-side, which was a hypnotic vocal acid anthem that has become an absolute classic of the genre. In all it lasts well over 12 minutes, but manages to be utterly compelling throughout, always evolving and keeping you locked in. It’s a track that takes influence from the harder Chicago sounds and really sums up the Djax-Up-Beats ethos. It has busy acid lines whipping about the mix as metallic hi-hats dance on top while filtered, haunting vocals take you down the dark rabbit hole.

The original mix is not only skillfully remastered from the original tape, it’s also ‘repaired’. The notorious out-of-sync gap at eight minutes is fixed, enabling long mixes without ‘trainwrecking'.

The b-side has two new remixes from Delta Funktionen and Lost Trax. Label stalwart Delta Funktionen serves up his own interpretation: a futuristic, electro tinged version with crashing hits and one of his famously busy basslines. The anonymous Lost Trax collective - who have released two EPs on Delsin before now - remix it also into a surging, twisted track with flurries of percussion and warped synths all bringing real warehouse energy.

Cold wave, minimal techno, electro abstract, avant- hard, hardcore techno, break core, IDM, EBM, Death Rock, punk Rock, New Wave,Dark Wave, Ambient, MiamiBootyBase, SpeedBase, Dub, RagaMuffin, Dubstep, Industrial, Noise, Experimental, world beat...did I forget anything?  Neophyte, for sure, and these are all my newly found treasures, that I have dug up from around the world.  One day I will produce some tracks again, until then, I will spend every minute listening to all the newly found gems!
