Los Angeles, early 80s. After Japanese video game engineer Tomohiro Nishikado developed Space Invaders in 1978, the western world entered into the golden age of arcade video games. Children, teenagers and grown-ups alike rushed into the newly built studios, eager to experiment with all sorts of electronic devices.

Revolving around minimal house, the mix attempts to reproduce the atmosphere of an arcade studio, with its multiple machines, screens, mechanics, blinking lights, sound loops. Most tracks represent a specific game or event happening in the studio (see below). 

Arcade also epitomizes the beginning of entertainment as a consumerist industry. Pop ups, flash promotions, ads, one way or another, you pay to play. There’s a radio inside the studio, broadcasting some cheap commercials between songs. Wrong frequencies, glitches, indistinct mutter in the background, all add to the overall retro touch of the mix.
