New York based percussionist and composer Eli Keszler is set to release his new album Icons on June 25 via LuckyMe. Icons is an immersive work in perpetual motion, evoking a glorious and dystopian western world. Known as a frequent collaborator to Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurel Halo, Kevin Beasley, and Rashad Becker, Keszler’s latest solo venture offers up a latticework of melodic percussion, drum set, and electro-acoustic instrumentation, built upon fragments of American abstraction, ancient scales, industrial percussion, and jazz-age film noir to achieve its feeling of imperial decay. Keszler’s instrumental performances are framed by panoramic recordings of New York City and the Odyssey Cave, along with other on-location audio from his global travels, defining an expansive music that takes on hyperreal forms difficult to describe outside of the loss and wonderment that defines our age.

“Icons is the music I made during a time where travel and trade were effectively suspended,” states Keszler. “I spent nights wandering around Manhattan collecting recordings of the empty and silent city where a car alarm was audible from blocks away, where the hum of the electrical grid and the clash of bicycle gears suddenly occupied a massive amount of space. I spent the entirety of that year in Manhattan, probably the longest I’ve stayed in one place in over a decade. The island was essentially shut down and running at an erratic pace. The speed of the city seemed to oscillate from intense speed - ambulances, protests, helicopters — to near stasis — a sort of beautiful, strange, serene stillness. I saw something strange and beautiful happening: power cracking and people changing. With Icons, I was working with these mythological tropes that are deteriorating and decaying before our eyes to create a music that finds beauty in our fragile and unstable reality.

Keszler has released music on Shelter Press, Empty Editions, ESP Disk and PAN. His 2018 album Stadium was awarded Boomkat’s Album Of The Year. Most recently, Keszler wrote the original score to Dasha Nekrasova’s feature The Scary of Sixty First (which made its recent premiere at Berlin Film Festival) and contributed to Daniel Lopatin's original score for Josh and Benny Safdie's Uncut Gems. Keszler’s music, installation, and visual work have appeared at the Whitney Museum, Lincoln Center, MIT List Center, Victoria & Albert Museum, Sculpture Center, The Kitchen, South London Gallery, Hessel Museum, Harvard's Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Luma-Foundation, Barbican, Walker Art Center, and MoMA PS1.

After rare apparitions on compilations, sound designer Victor Morello aka @zerocrossingpoint brings to light his very first full length release. "Iteration of the Self" gathers 8 tracks created on a 4 years interval and based on countless reworks and adjustments, mirroring a dense period of self transformation for the producer. Inspired by Ambient, Musique Concrete, Film Score, Club and Metal, Zero Crossing Point delivers a stunning piece of hybrid electronics, sometimes extreme, sometimes uplifting and cinematic.

Use and abuse of home made synthesised sounds and personal field recordings create an uncommon universe in which reverb, granular synthesis, distortion and resonators pave the way for an astonishing sense of narration. Drawing inspiration from nature observations, bizarre movies, books and video games, the Grenoble-based producer built a wonderful piece transcribing strong unsayable emotions and exploring the concept of iteration.

Zero Crossing Point  - 07 - Radiance

We are thrilled to announce the cinematic debut album from London-based artist @Wordcolour, hitting shops on 24th June 2022.

An artist very much on the rise, following two EPs on Houndstooth and one on Lapsus, ‘The trees were buzzing, and the grass.’ is described as an album of collaboration with contributions from percussionist Michael Anklin, voice artist Natasha Lohan and performance artist Es Morgan as well as vocal appearances from Wordcolour’s circle of friends.

Working with Es Morgan on a written text for the album, Wordcolour chopped and sampled the words throughout, inviting friends to narrate the music along with recordings from Michael Anklin and Natasha Lohan. “My dad was an acoustics researcher before he retired, and when I was growing up we always had various microphones and bits of gear lying around the house, as well as an early DAW on the computer.  I was a pretty nerdy kid, and I'd always mess around on the computer with my friends, recording our voices and combining them with audio FX to create stories.  It was about creating a whole vivid world in sound, and on this album I feel that I'm really doing the same thing,” Wordcolour explains. 

“In one sense the album is quite cinematic. Not in the sense that it is big or epic, but in the way it is structured. At times the music literally cuts like a camera - moving the listener from one acoustic environment to another. It indulges a fascination with the hyper-real world of Foley and film sound effects, natural ambiences, and Spielbergian film music. It almost feels like an album about film.”
