DETACHMENT - TW lifetime

Italian imprint Shift Ltd has always harbored a propensity for rough-around-the-edges old-school flavoured house music. For their latest outing, they call on a man who's very well verse in such exquisite timbres, as sometime Half Baked and 4lux man Enrico Mantini delivers with telling aplomb on the Different Perspectives EP.

An EP that channels the true essence of house music, Different Perspectives will have discerning house heads in a spin from the first to the last beat. It all kicks off with the brilliant, bumping sounds of ''Take Me Make Me'', a nimble slice of house music that's beautiful in its simplicity. ''I Will Be True'', a remaster from 1993, is another mesmerising cut, with its hypnotic sheen enough to keep the listener on edge throughout.

The B-side gets underway courtesy of ''Work Out'', whereby the producer turns up the heat considerably thanks to a slamming dancefloor zest that's primed with dexterous facets and a mound of well-heeled groove. It's expert stuff, and it neatly paves the way for the EP's final track, the deep-as-you-like ''Whenever You Want Me'', a track that forces parallels with classic Mr Fingers joints thanks to its glittering analogue persuasion. It's a fitting compliment – and ending - to an altogether outstanding EP.
