This Joyful Eastertide - Malcolm Archer

This is Andy Williamson's transcription/arrangement of this piece from one of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts, to be used as the opening movement in place of 'Praise God' in the Høybe-Pedersen arrangement (which still features in the Finale). There's a 'rap' section in the middle where something topical can be added - this soloist from the Exeter Festival Chorus decided to make this into more of a song.

Restored by Hoxa from an amateur 1960s (we think) recording. A morning event for all ages. Presented by Felix Aprahamian with Bill (Edward) Fry of All Saints Church, Clifton at the console. Another voice is heard, at the moment a mystery but soon hopefully to be unravelled. Organ design and views are very mush of their time of course. Music by Bach, Guilmant, Frescobaldi and Widor among others.

These four songs were performed during the first set of a concert in Bristol's 'Council House' (the Town Hall) on 24 February, 2007 to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade. Musical relevance for the occasion came in the second set, where The Big Buzzard Boogie Band and Exultate Singers performed Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert (as arranged by John Høybe and Peder Pedersen). This also featured Jacqui Dankworth on solo vocals and Zoe Rahman on piano. Both are in fine form in these songs that were performed during the first half of the concert.

This was the voluntary after Solemn Mass at Clifton Cathedral, 15th March 2020. Played by Stephen Bryant, Cathedral Organist.

This chorale prelude is from the Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book) which seems to date from the end of Bach’s time in Weimar, 1714-1717. The text of the chorale translates as: O Lamb of God, although innocent he was slaughtered on the cross; he was always long suffering. How much were you despised: you have carried every sin. Otherwise we would despair. Please have mercy with us, Jesus.

Preparing A Place - A Meditation for Good Friday

Good Friday 2020 - we hear the bells of Clifton College sound as the Angelus rings from a deserted Clifton Cathedral. Great George marks time passing in the distance. The sounds of life in a locked-down city pass by as the Reproaches remind us of Good Fridays past, and to come.

Some of these from live Good Friday recordings with around a thousand people and the concomitant, now poignant, imperfections. Recorded as a record of the event, not for a released recording.
